Change Your Blog Commenting Ways - Now!

I keep seeing people recommending blog comments as a way of building backlinks. While I know the important of backlinking for SEO purposes, have any of you considered how silly your website might be looking to the real people that actually see the posts?

I'm talking to those of you that hire people to make posts like this:

"I was just talking to a friend about this very subject. I was right and now he owes me lunch. Thanks for the free lunch."

Or worse...

"Very insightful ways you do this story effecting my life."

Anybody that reads the later comment and sees a link to your site will think that your company is run by an illiterate idiot. The first example lets everybody know that you are a fake.

Instead of attaching your company name to a bunch of ridiculous, and often unrelated, blog comments, consider actually contributing to the conversation. This will have a much greater effect on your business than just building a bunch of backlinks.

Here are a couple of benefits...

1. By contributing intellectual commentary to a blog post, other readers are more apt to clicking on your link. They will want to see more of what you have to offer.

2. Regular commenting on a blog site that is in your niche will give you a greater opportunity to JV with the site owner. For example, "Hey, it's EBR, I have been enjoying our conversations on your blog." Isn't that a better ice breaker than a cold introduction?

3. Google searches for your company name will result in quality comments and conversations, rather than gibberish from some non-English speaking backlink company.

Just a few things to think about as you ring in 2012.

Hi

While this is true if you are trying to actually build a relationship and hopefully real traffic, the SEONukers and 5,000 backlink outsourcers are only concerned with getting x,xxx number of links and hope many stick.

They don't care if the text is legible or what other posters think. They just want a link with "keywords" back to their where-ever that will hopefully hang around for a while.

Other marketers will recognize them for what they are, innocent visitors will be puzzled by the idiocy.

This is why blogs that are not well monitored, autoapprove and don't moderate comments are gold for tools. Of course that is also why they have hundreds of comments like these (or more).

People pay good money and subscribe to expensive services to get fresh lists of discovered blogs. Many use them legitimately, but a lot just dump the list into SEONuke and click "Go".

I don't do that at all so I have no idea of how effective that strategy is.

The Internet is littered with backlink trash, it's not just blog comments.

No, but seriously, you're so right. People have lost the plot with blog commenting, ever since these mass comment producers have come out. I think the best strategy, if you want to leave backlinks on blogs in the form of comments, is to hire somebody who will actually read each blog and then write an insightful comment about it. It's hard to find guys who can do this, so sometimes it is best to take these matters into your own hands. These automatic software are overrated, in my opinion. Robots are still far from replacing us!

You're some how right Brian Rose but people usually use blogs for commenting purpose they dont even know the story running on that particular blog or topic, now a days people just want to build backlinks and dont have much time to read whole conversation and contribute in it. good idea and point of view about blog commenting.
We shouldn't just see the blog commenting as a way of getting backlinks, but also if we have a good enough quality of the comments, we'll get traffic also because people will appreciate your comment and want to know you more by clicking your link.

I comment manually on the top results of Google for my keyword plus "yourname@yourkeywords" I do this with many different pages on my site. I don't know if software works better, probably depends how good you are at making it look like you're doing what I'm doing.

The wonderful Rosetress helped me to install akismet onto my site and we removed all the spam. After 6 months of seriously hard work I am very proud to show you my comments on my blog. Some blog comments are really bad. However, nobody reads them. People don’t read even good comments.

Many times I give exactly the same answer to blog comments (that don’t look like spam because they are related to my blog’s topic). Most readers don’t bother reading the previous comments under an article, the same way they don’t seriously read my article before leaving a (related?) comment.

Those who leave comments without meaning don’t want to use their comments to attract readers to their sites or blogs; they only want to show Google that their links are everywhere.

Backlinking should have a double meaning: improve your website or blog’s ranking AND attract curious visitors. However, nobody writes decent comments, and nobody reads anything anyway…

Fortunately, there are good readers who keep visiting my blog or new readers who subscribe to the RSS feed, but they rarely leave comments.

I don’t waste my time leaving comments at other blogs. I did it in the past but the results were too poor, and I wasted too much time with this occupation because I read their articles before leaving my intelligent comments, which not always were appreciated by the blog owners.

I enjoy leaving comments at Squidoo lenses (I’m a lensmaster too and I recently became a Giant Squid, having many advantages at Squidoo now). All lensmasters love receiving comments at their lenses because they get points from Squidoo, their lensrank improves and they get more traffic from Google.

You can leave comments at Squidoo lenses even if you are not a lensmaster and even post live links at your comments (through anchor text). If your comments are interesting and positive, the lensmasters will gladly let them remain in their lenses. This way you get backlinks and you have the chance to attract readers if your comments reflect some wisdom.

Squidoo was not affected by the Panda, and you can get a lot of traffic from the Squidoo community and send this traffic to your blogs or websites, especially if you are a lensmaster and you create Squidoo lenses too.

Squidoo lenses are an excellent free traffic generating method and they are great backlinks. You can also write interesting comments at other lenses, which are always welcome. Many lensmasters are quite gentle; they leave comments at your lenses too whenever you leave comments at their lenses. I prefer this occupation than leaving comments at various blogs.

I am guessing your blog has been visited by the same freelancers as mine. If the comment is not from someone I know or adds a valuable insight then into the spam bin they go.

Marketing is a people business and people do business with people they trust but they use many pieces of your jigsaw to build that trust, one stupidly lame comment can destroy that trust.

Rules of blog commenting

1. All blog comments are spam.
2. In the even that you feel your comment is not spam, please
refer to rule #1.

Google tipped us off to this when they told us not to
put adsense on spammed comment pages. Since I
can't tell which comments are spam, I researched the
rules above.

Course I stopped commenting on blogs (for links), and
stopped accepting comments long, long ago.

Ummm speaking as someone who has had plenty of people here show me their website in order to get suggestions to rank them I can say you have missed a critical point.

The websites of many of the people you are trying to talk to could not possibly look worse by people reading their junk blog comments. It still would be much better than actually looking at the commenter's websites.

This is why you will never dissuade a good portion of the people to stop spam comments - their MFA and affiliate reviews sites are crappy to begin with. Theres very little to lose in credibility when your website doesn't have any to begin with.

when modding a forum a while back you would be surprised that 99.99% of those business had no idea their name was being spammed around the place.

Back in the crystal palace the brains of the operation says we need need a bigger on line share, so they hire billy bob;s number one seo service, who in turn outsources to the outsources who then hire cheap labor.

Th original site owner is not even aware of the rubbish being created, in the white collar office he / she has ordered a reputable seo company and thats where their interest stops.

Your absolutely right... I stopped reading your long answer half-way through the second paragraph...

Of course, most people read every post in a forum... So why would they not read the comments attached to an article?

People read and respond to comments that they think will be worth reading!!

For example, sometimes I spend hours reading blog comments on that Salty site, just for the humor value alone.
