Default can someone just copy my whole picture site?

if i make a website based on pictures like 100% free wallpapers, can someone just copy my whole site and I would lose all and any adsense income?

thanks for your advice to my newbie question

P.S. Happy 2012!
(i wonder how do big free wallpaper websites protect themselves?)

There is nothing to stop people scraping your web site and republishing it, but with google usually first in first served. So what exactly are planning to do?

WinHTTrack will download a 1K page site in less than an hour.

It won't have any effect on your Adsense, unless maybe they out rank you for all your keywords in the SERPs.

Once your content is online, it's literally impossible to protect the content from being scraped. Just saying...

For images, you could always watermark the image (bottom corner of wallpaper image), with your domain name.

for content i understand that Google will recognise that it was the first person who put the text, but what about the pictures? if I make nice pictures in photoshop and put for free like wallpapers - that's what i am asking. If someone just takes my pictures and puts on their website (let's say more powerful one) Google will give him all the credit or will somehow know that it was my pictures?

Imagine this guy (or all the guys) who made these wallpapers asking "Can someone steal my wallpapers and make adsense revenue from them?"

It doesn't matter who uploaded & ranked the image first, it's all about who is better at SEO (you or the competition).

I run 3 larger image type sites (not wallpaper ), one of my images was hijacked & the guy was ranking #1, I was bumped to #2 in Google Image SERPs.

What I did was create a 800x800 image, then scaled it down with CSS for the traffic. Then I backlinked the image, basically I hot-linked to my own images from external & internal links.

It worked, because I've been #1 in the SERPs for both Text & Image search for about a year now. That one keyword/image gets about 25-50 hits per day, not bad for an image.

I also advise to break the Google Image frame & not allow traffic to go directly to your image from their Google Image search.

what exactly is your point? I am trying to learn. If I spend many hours with photoshop and my adsense will suffer from someone copying I would like to know before I spend all those hours.

yukon thank you for the explanation!
can I please ask when you said "then scaled it down with CSS for the traffic" - sorry for me being stupid - I have a wordpress website, if I just insert image into post at my usual 200 or 300 pixel size (and lets say original image is huge) is that what you mean make it smaller for traffic?
thanks

I'll guarantee right now someone will steal your new images (sooner or later), do the watermark, make them work their butt off trying to give the image away on their site.

If you don't watermark the images, like I said before your site/feed will get scraped & you'll get zero credit for the images. It's the only thing you can possibly do to get credit for your work.

You'll still get a few idiots that will scrape even with a watermark, but at least a watermark is free advertisement for your own site.

What I mean is kinda clear - it doesn't matter how many hours you spend in photoshop unless you have some kick-ass SEO. Thats how adsense profits work.

Otherwise you could prolly sell your images. The revenue will be from some other kind - not adsense.

And if you spend many hours in photoshop and at the same time you have some really nice SEO - BINGO. But make sure you do some copyright stuff. to protect your images from being stolen

That's what I was talking about scaling the image width x height down.

Hey I just had another idea for you, this will help ward of the scrapers looking for easy targets/content.

Instead of having a single image, create 2 images, 1 low res. image & 1 high res. image.

Rank the low res. image in Google Image SERPs, when the traffic lands on your page make it clear to them that the high res. image is in a downloadable zip file (I'm a freak about zip files on my own Adsense sites, lol ). That will prevent scrapers from stealing/hotlinking the good high res. image.

It will also allow you to advertise your sites inside the zip file that contains the high res. wallpaper image, that's easy repeat traffic. I've been doing downloadable zip files for a few years.

Here is a thread I started, read the thread & you'll see more of what I'm talking about & how I get free repeat traffic to my Adsense sites.
