The lesson from Google, as usual, is "do as we say, not as we do."

I apologize in advance for the "I told you so" tone. I dont mean it that way. I'm merely hoping to remind that even now, as marketers, we need to accept the reality. Even back pre 2002 I often l said, "as seo's, we don't make the rules, we just play the game". This is a quote I gave to some newspaper after the searchKing vs google suit was dismissed. SearchKing CEO Bob Massa expressed disappointment over the ruling, but he didn't see it as a complete loss. "We have been able to give the Internet marketing community a much clearer view of the inner workings of Google, their systems, their reach and their own view of themselves," he said in a statement. "SearchKing never broke a law, yet was accused, judged and executed without so much as a notice of intent. This affected thousands of innocent people without just cause." I was trying to get some support from those online who realize all the media hype about two kids making good and the whole don't be evil thing was just that. HYPE. That eventually a corporation they would be and just because they were cute, nerdy and juvenile, did not raise them above the laws of fair trade. Not to mention any sense of right or wrong or moral and ethical obligation. Back then, as now, they hide behind a cloak of superior technology to subvert the legal restrictions the rest of us have to live by. These days(partly thanks to them ironically enough), that cloak is wearing thin as more and more legal minds become more adept with tech. Now they tend to mix their tech prowess with their long list of legal precedents, that if it were possible to go back and re-examine the same cases with exactly the same evidences and arguments, would the judgements be the same knowing what we have finally come to accept? I was trying to say back then, as Im saying still. CYA Always accept the reality of what you want, who calls the shots and what you are willing to risk to get what you want. Google is not your buddy. Google is a corporation whose loyalties will ALWAYS |

I don't think they will penalize their own page. At the end of the day Google is a business and they will do whatever it takes to make money. However, there will be some unrest which will automatically subside with time. THE TRUTH |

It is the usual way of the world. When someone or something is so big they can do whatever they want but they usually tell others to act differently. It is so their own interests are not harmed or jeopardize in any way. Either that or in this instance Google made an error in operations, something that can't be too hard given its size. But as an overall, the general behaviour is the former rather then the latter.
