It depends on the PR of the blog itself.

Additionally it is not only the SEO benefits, commenting on high traffic blogs and contributing to the discussion (do not just leave a comment for the sake of a link) will bring a lot of traffic if you are a regular commentator. Another plus is that many blogs use top commentators widgets which means that if you comment regularly on a blog your site will get featured on every page of the blog something that will create a lot of exposure to your site and seo benefits... | |

| Yep, think of blog commenting as a way to get traffic and sales directly rather than a way to get backlinks. You'll build a following, get more Facebook and LinkedIn connections, etc.

Depends on the PR of the page you are commenting, even no follow high PR back link is still is important to Google. I comment on many nofollow high PR blogs, in one month my blogs come from PR 0 to PR 4th.

| You can check if blogs are dofollow pretty easily. I use seomoz which (when turned on) will highlight dofollow links on any page that I'm on, making it very fast and easy to see. I agree, however, that finding the higher ranking, quality blogs is important. It's also important to create a relationship with the blog. You have a really good opportunity when leaving a link on a blog to not only gain a backlink (if it's a dofollow) but to entice readers to your site. If I read an intelligent, funny or interesting comment I will often click on their link to have a look at their site. |
