Does this backlinking strategy still work?

The company that I started working for showed me their strategy. Do any of you still use this strategy? A friend of mine told me that this strategy will not work because making other sites like "tumblr, blogger, wordpress, etc" that link back to your main page will just show that you have the same IP address. Therefore Google will know that and it won't help at all in terms of ranking your keywords. What do you guys think?

This is very simple tiered linking or a link pyramid. As far as I am aware it does still work.

Even if you register the sites through blogger/tumblr with the same IP, it doesn't matter?

I am using a very similar strategy on some of my sites recently it definitely works

Yeah it works. If you want to make it work better use another level with sites that link to the sites that link to your main site (hope you understand that the way I said it )

You might want to consider adding more levels or mixing it up a bit so it is not so ridgid. That way you might get a more 'natural' looking link profile.

Also not really sure what social Mookmarking is. Ha!

this is common practice even and works very well. Diversifying your web2.0 layer always helps, but you should be more conceirned by getting them 'niche relevant' than IP address.. (im pretty sure googles doesn't look at the IP address of the account created on a third party service and compare that with their own data...)

not sure what the 'anchor layer' means though... is this cross linking? or a link chain? 3way linking? .. defining this and getting it right could be very important..

Yes, this still works very effectively, especially if all the articles posted on the different sites are unique and well written.

Keep in mind that this diagram should be done daily. This is not a once a week type thing. You have to diversify the tier 1 sites and I would definitely add some of my "secret sauce" to the mix but this diagram done daily will definitely get you results.

Yes link pushing to contextual backlinks is a solid strategy, really creates a downhill effect with the link juice.

Good basic overview and it definitely still works. Though some people go much further than that and add more tiers.

Of course it works! Like others said, make sure the layer linking to your main site is all unique and well-written.

Then add more diversity to the mix and you'll be fine. I think this is a long-term strategy that really gives your site a solid foundation over blog comments and forum profiles.

If they don't require you to add more layers than don't do it. I think that this also will give you quite good results.
