I have never done SEO for a multilingual site before, so I was wondering what the best strategy for this site would be? My friend has a site in German, english and Dutch. Dutch is the main language. When you switch to another language '?lang=en' or '?lang=de' (for german) is added to the url. Do I build backlinks to www.domain.com/?lang=de for ranking the german version of the homepage? All strategies and tips are welcome! |

yes... but it would be better if you could change that mechanism a bit and use de.domain.com or even domain.de instead. You should be able to rewrite the urls using your htaccess

I will agree with didyouknow. It would be probably better to have different subdomains for each language. If you do that, make sure that you will permanently redirect the old urls to the new ones. |
