I'm not new to IM, but I've been working on just one site for the past couple years, and now that I've got some experience, I'd like to expand. I keep hearing that you shouldn't "put all your eggs in the same basket", so that's why I want to create a new website. I've been doing keyword research, but I've been having a hard time finding another good niche/keyword. My problems are: -Niche is too competitive -Doesn't get enough searches -CPC is too low I did happen to find a keyword that has 5,400 exact monthly searches and has a CPC of $2.46, and I'm pretty sure I can rank top 10 within a few months (I'll be monetizing mainly with adsense, but have amazon links as well since it's a product). The problem is I want an EMD, but they're taken. My main question is, what do I do? Lets say the domain that I want is (but already taken): websitedomains.com .com is taken, and .co .net .info and .org are all on backorder/auction. Can I add a word to the domain and still be just as competitive for that keyword? My options are (example domain): thewebsitedomains.com yourwebsitedomains.com mywebsitedomains.com newwebsitedomains.com websitedomainsnow.com websitedomainsblog.com websitedomainsshop.com websitedomainstoday.com Any of those worth buying, or do you have better suggestions? Thanks! |

Yes you can add a word to your domain. And you have to start asap with your new site. Every day you do not work for it is a lost day!

I'm in the same exact situation. All the good exact match domains are taken. What I'm planning on doing is buying the next best alternative when it comes to domains, and then testing different backlinking and "grey" hat SEO options. See what works and what doesn't, and then buy even more domains and build them up using the techniques that work.

Ok, thanks for the confirmation, guys. I'll probably buy it tomorrow and start adding content. Should I start a thread about it as well for a little motivation, or are there too many out there?

Yeah I often add suffixes to EMD's if .com .org .net are not available its fine. Never seen any negative results from this practice and you certainly shouldn't give up on a good keyword just because the EMD is not available. |
