Okay I see the google + attached to my gmail which is basically like facebook, that part I get. But I also see the +1 on the search engines and on blogs - so if you +1 something on a google page, is that a vote for it to rank higher on that search term or does it do something else? if you +1 a blog post - what does that do exactly? I've been reading about this a little, but I'm not entirely sure if the search engine + and the blog post + and the gmail + account are all working together or if they're semi separate. I assume they all tie in together somehow but I have yet to find something written on this that explains it and what it does (most of the articles are how to use) I keep hearing the +1 is good for seo but I'm not fully understanding what it does and how it works. Am I going to want the + button on every page of my ecommerce/educational website or just my blog? thanks in advance! |

Google+ and +1 are different. Google+, as you said, is more like Facebook. It's another social network with some different features. The +1 button is similar to a Like button, but it's not part of your Google+ account. You can click on the +1 button to show that you liked something, and it will show up in search results that you +1'd it, with a little picture of you from your Google profile next to it. But you don't have to sign up for Google+ to use that button. At least you didn't used to. You should definitely have a +1 button alongside a tweet and Like button on everything that you want shared. It's another vote that will help with SEO. Also, I think people are more likely to click on a search result if it has someone's picture next to it - a personal recommendation of sorts. Who knows though? Maybe Google will change it all before you even get to read this! Sharyn |

+1 is Google's way of telling Facebook that their likes mean nothing in search. When people use +1 it affects the search results. Google + is just a different variety of Facebook.

So +1 is only affect the search results of your connections if they search in Google while logged in. Quote:
Though all these are assumptions, so I would suggest you to use it like normal social networking site like Facebook and twitter.

Hi sharkey, There seems to be a lot of misconceptions about the Google +1 button feature. All it does is associate the page that you click the +1 button on with your personal Google profile. There is no effect on search engine ranking. The primary function seems to be a way for Google to map connections between people and the web pages that they associate themselves with. It' kinda like a virtual tee shirt that says "I'm with this webpage ->" ![]() Day 291: No, I'm With Stupid! by newbiemind, on Flickr The only effect it has on search results is to display who in your personal circle of contacts has also +1 the same page. Will it do more than that in the future, perhaps, but it is yet to be seen. |

Google+ really help your site to the eyes of Google. "Its like people saying this site is the best Google."

I guess you didn't bother to read the post just before yours ^^^. Let's be clear about what it does and not assign some imaginary magical mystical powers. ![]() I doesn't "help your site to the eyes of Google", it helps Google associate your personal connection to the web page. It just notes the connection between you and that page and associates that with your personal Google profile. If you happen to have a Google Plus account it will share your affiliation with that page to your personal circle of friends.
