Hi there, everyone has noticed by now (if you have eyes that is), that there is "a special place" for youtube (or other video clips <- rare) on the first page of Google. When doing keyword research you have certainly jumped through the roof many times when you saw "GREAT THIS GUY DOESNT HAVE ANY BACKLINKS AND IS RANKING 4TH...I CAN...oh wait...youtube "So whats the deal with this. I ve noticed and read many times that Youtube rankings dont corelated with Google rankings in form of backlinks etc. I have some clips ranking #1 on youtube and #1 in Google search/Videos...They are on the 3. or 4. page of the overall search. I believe now I have to backlink them as any other page, but still is there an edge? I cant see any other logical explanation, because I have seen clips in the #2 #3 spot with not much views or likes or any other seo related stuff. They were just #1 on youtube. Your thoughts? Sincerely, Buyseech |

There is no logical explanation for youtube other than relevance, tags, pageviews, and likes. You have to consider that google owns youtube, so obviously they want people to search for youtube. Searching using the youtube setting on the main page should search only youtube. The vast majority of people searching for videos do it on youtube. Backlinks to youtube videos are not the same as regular links, and are not really backlinks in the true sense. You are linking to a video that exists in cyber space on a page that is dynamically created. Not even the same as linking to an image, as you can view the image apart from a page. But you cannot view a video (apart from embedding) by itself. A link to the video will go to a page that is created on the fly. If people knew this, they would optimize a page, embed their videos on it, and pump up views. You should build backlinks to your youtube channel. Now that is a webpage. An easy way is to comment on youtube videos that auto-approve. Instant backlink to your channel! Paul |

Nicely put. So there is no reason to backlink youtube videos outside of youtube... Luckily I have more than 1 account and will split test various aspects, to get the overall "how to rank high overall in Google" picture. Looking forward to other comments and previous results from other warriors aswell. Sincerely, Buyseech |

I did a little case study a few days ago. Blasting a youtube video of mine with 20.000 blogcomments. It was sitting at page 5, increased to page 4 and couple days later it dropped to page 15. So dynamic page or not, links certainly do effect the position in the serps. Its a wide known fact that ranking youtube video's work, without having to rank the channel instead of the odd youtube.com/fIkFEFkgd9gs link. Its just not smart to blast it with 20k comments I just found out just like you wouldn't do that to your money site.
