Adsense only allows a maximum of 3 advertisements on a page, but I have spotted various websites that use up to 5 Adsense adverts on a single page. One example is the Washingtontimes.com on its front page it has an Adsense on top, two on the left, one on the right and one at the bottom, on a single page, I know of other sites with also 5 Adsense placements on a single page. Anyone can tell me how do they do this? Normally Adsense blocks it if it detects more than 3 adverts. |

I wasn't aware of that, the reason Adsense gives to only allow 3 adverts per page is that it is bad for the visitor as the site looks cluttered, they are kind of hypocrites then, thank you.

That's not the reason they limit it to 3 ads per page but they do have special deals for premier publishers..... |

Big companies always seem to get special deals - tax breaks, rule bending - it just seems to be the way the world works.

| You are correct, I got confused because Google Adsense official support page says "keep in mind that placing the maximum number of allowed ad units on a page may result in it looking cluttered". I have now found out that Adsense limits the adverts per page for inventory reasons. They are basically sending a message to the little publisher saying that they are less worthy of Adsense attention&deals than a big huge publisher. |

Google is being kind when they say "cluttered." If you read anything and everything from the google adsense people, you will know that they mean "monetized" percentage of the page. If your page is 25% content, 75% ads, that's not too good. BUT...that can happen even with one ad block. Has nothing to do with the number. I do not know what the correct percentage is, but google states that if the "vast majority" of your page is devoted to nothing but adsense ads, then your page exists for no reason than to put adsense ads on it. Not good. This is even a reason for a ban, BTW, but few will listen. They swear they follow all TOS, when in actuality they do not read everything they can get their hands on. However, each page is taken on its own merits, not by how many ad units one has. A squidoo lens, long enough, has plenty of space for all ad units. Sites like banner creators, like cooltext.com, has very little content in relation to ads. But the ads are not why the page exists. It exists for people to create free buttons, banners, etc. If you have not heard or used cooltext.com, and you need nice fancy headers, logos, etc., you are missing out on a great free site. Paul |

Yeah big websites get special allowances with adsense. One "big" site i'm competing against for a few hundred terms has 7 Adsense blocks on page with less than 500 words. In comparison, I have 1500 words per page and only 2 ad blocks. Google warned at PubCon they'll soon be cracking down on pages with high ads:content ratio. I sure hope they do. |

You don't really want to overdo the adsense at any rate, even on big traffic sites like the Washington Times it can be off putting. How many ad placements does a site need? Three ad blocks on a page is ample in my opinion. And big thanks to paulgl above me here - I have indeed been missing out. Not now though |
