Noob over here, how can you SEO to rank an online shopping website? Is it the same for normal websites?

For online shopping website can exchange link with other high PR shopping website.
FB fan-page to drive traffic.
My opinion as I do link building it is same as normal websites. Do post unique content to articles site and with my won strategy link building by web2sites and wiki site too..

Shopping websites are quite difficult to promote and optimize.

I had to hire Ignitras (Software development and Internet marketing company) for promoting my shopping store.

I would say the same basic SEO processes and techniques can be applied to all websites including shopping sites. There might be some more technical and advanced techniques to inplement as well

By shopping site you mean e-commerce sight? If yes then take care not to put duplicate titles and descriptions of products on your site. Instead use fresh meta descriptions. Besides get links from high PR sites in the same niche.

Product based websites are in a quite stiff competition. Simple link building campaign will never work well with this one. To deal with this, I think press release will be a good start.

But to remind you, I have suggested press release not for ranking, but for user targets. I think this thread conversation will help you.

For shopping sites locally focused SEO should be done for the best result.Methods are same as other just choose the specific region as far as possible.

When optimizing online shopping websites, focus more on the inner pages because that is where the products are, each Type of product should have its own page and keywords. Make an effort to come up with unique content. Then just optimize the site using the normal link building methods such as article submission, blog comments, etc.
