I get the point about relevant replies, I think the point I'm trying to make is do you search out sites for (what could end up being just) one off replies, etc, or would you spend your time leaving as many (relevant) links as possible on a site such as this one?

I suppose to refine the question, would be to turn it into an economy of time one. Would you spend more time on here leaving links, than searching the net for sites that might only offer you minimal chances to leave relevant links (I hope that makes sense).

Try to get some links from high authority web2.0 sites and if you have some budget on hand, buy some high PR links from homepages. You can find people selling such services on the "Warrior for Hire" section of this forum. But be careful. Only a few such links will do as it'll raise a red flag if most incoming links to your site are from High PR sites. Think about it, the entire internet is made up of websites with varying PRs. The best & effective method to increase ur PageRank is to build backlinks from high authority websites in your niche...Most of the good forumS allow you to post comments with link back to your site but ofcourse you can't spam them with irrelevant stuff...look for relevant forums in ur niche..As for blogs ..not all will allow you backlinks while u post comments on them..

other alternative will be to buy backlinks from high PR sites in your niche..

High PR does not translate in high SERPs. You can get high PR ranking with quality back links from authority sites but your site won't necessarily rise in SERPs. A PR2 site is beating my PR4 site in many of my sought searches.

Right... But the KIND of backlinks are REALLY IMPORTANT!

Backlinks need to:

1. Be closely related to your website or blog topic.

2. Not be from sites that are known to use "blackhat SEO" methods.

3. Not be from known "Link Farms".

4. Not be produced using any kind of "automated software."

5. Use "Anchor Text" with "keyword related" links.
