Okay, I had a similar thread a few days back, but I've decided to hold off on that site, and redesign a smaller but similar site to see what happens. Here's the current scenario: My homepage is ranking for multiple keywords. The site structure is a mess. I want to "silo" it. My question is should I redirect the homepage to the category associated with the homepage. Example: Homepage is Browncats.com And it ranks highly for brown cats, brown cats that shed, etc. But I want to turn the site into: Browncats.com with the following categories -Brown cats -Brown cats that shed -Potty training brown cats Can I redirect the homepage URL to the category Brown Cats? In doing so I have no idea how the user would ever get to the homepage of the site. Which makes me think it's a horrible idea. But most of my link building has been done to the homepage. I'd like to funnel all that to the brown cats category. I think the answer is no, but I want to check before I start on this today. This site isn't nearly as important as the other one, so I can experiment a little. |

I think it can be harmful experiment to you, I wouldn't suggest to redirect home page, If you can optimize that Category page also so that it can be get rank well with their keywords.
