Default Lesson Learned - About Helping People with SEO

<rant>

I learned a lesson over the last couple of days about how helping others on the SEO forum can backfire on me.

I've always been the kind of guy that was willing to help others openly & for free, I like helping people that sincerely need help with things like SEO. When I help people I don't expect them to resell the info. I've given them for free, I take that as an insult.

Ultimately it's my own fault for sharing what I know & being so transparent in how I do some of my own SEO.

I guess If I had sold the SEO info. already they would have been the type of people to buy, download & then instantly get a refund. It's these type of people that give IM a bad rep.

Anyways I've seen their product & it's still weak considering they don't have a clue what they are doing as far as SEO. Thing is, If they would have waited a little longer they would have had a lot more info. that would have benefited both of them more than going behind my back. They don't need to PM me again because I won't open the PMs I'll simply delete them without thinking twice about it.

Bottom line, be careful who you help for free, they'll possibly turn around & sell the info. you gave them. Maybe I should just turn PMs off since I don't know who I can trust on here.

</rant>

Pfff, when do people learn to appreciate help instead of trying to gain direct financial benefits from it. Un****ing real that they leech your ass off and then sell it. I always enjoy reading your posts Yukon as your one of the very few on this forum who posts quality without trying to gain any benefit from it with obvious signature links and what not!

Forget the **** and keep doing what you've always done here! Adding value to the forum!

Not everyone is going to be a "good egg", but plenty of others will. When you deal with the bad eggs, you take it as a learning experience, because everything is one, and move on, leaving the negativity behind and wishing the person well. Don't let one bad egg spoil the whole game of being good and helpful for you. Many people find their best successes by helping other people be successful.

That's bad.

As someone who is genuinely keen to learn and absorb as much as my brain can handle, its a shame that someone as willing as yourself to help others, got matched with a twat.

Yukon you are one of the most helpful users on the forum, i plead that you will still help the rest of us who are in need of your vast knowledge

may sound like im being sarcastic but im really not, i dont think i have ever read anything stupid from you on this forum.

It sucks that this has happened but at least you learned a lesson and know not to go giving out your knowledge just to anyone on the forum.

Don't let that get you down. There are all kinds of people, some are honest, some are scammers and willing to do unethical things just to make money...

There are still many people, who truly appreciate your help, so stay the way you've been so far, don't let the "bad" people get you down.

Yuke feel your pain. Been in a similar circumstances. Got to remember this is the internet. All this talk about community Yada Yada yada. A scam artist can sign up for WF just as well as an honest person. I learned to give out a certain amount of information and stop my fingers typing. You should do the same. Like PaulG said so right our best stuff we keep to ourselves and a few people you see that earned it. Give it to any and everyone and they end up not appreciating it, trampling over it and even ruining it

You could always go to their sales page and punch holes in their product. But at the same time, that would take time better spent making money. By the way, can you write down all your tricks and techniques for me in PDF format with some videos showing in details some of the more complex methods *whistles* .

I get people message me on a different forum about Adsense which I don't mind as well, it's the guys who doubt, doubt and doubt some more that bug me.

Yukon, no doubt you have certainly helped me raise the bottom
line. Thing is, I find it so much more fun, enlightening, and worthwhile
to read, learn, and put it in practice. I may be wrong, but I'll
bet every SEO person worth a dang spends countless hours
doing that and more. I don't want "info," I want experience.
They obviously won't have that, and will once again give
SEO a bad name. That to me is the worst part. Pity the
people that buy, then call everybody names.

Don't turn off the PMs.
I'd miss some of the losers of the week!

If I don't recognize the name, I delete PMs. I suspect
some of you get slammed by the car loads.

Especially a 3 letter section of WF...
It's a pity that people who are really trying to help are drowned out by the greedy, ignorant masses.

I'm really sorry to hear that Yukon. I was really looking forward to the information you were going to put out about silo structures for websites.

But of course someone had to go and ruin your generosity and you wanting to help Warriors on the WF...

Getting to the point where coming to the WF isn't even worth it anymore because people who are knowledgeable about SEO are either wanting to keep their knowledge to themselves or their having to argue/defend the knowledge their sharing freely from clowns who have no idea what they are talking about...

Yukon,

I started reading all the posts on silos last week and was very intrigued by your knowledge and experience in this area. I was absolutely amazed at how well you outlined everything because it really helped me grasp the concept quickly. Now I know why you didn't answer the question I PM'd to you!

Sorry to hear that your generosity was used for someone's selfish benefit. I sure wish you would OUT THEM, too!!!! At least others would be forewarned that they are not who they pretend to be ... although I think I have a clue of who the prick is based on the threads I have read where you have shared some very detailed and in-depth information.

Just want you to know that the info you share is greatly appreciated by those of us who truly want to learn so we can honestly earn a living without using or trampling over anyone to get ahead. I have been checking the forum often and waiting with bated breath for the silo structure information you stated you would share.

I tip my hat off to you, again, for being the Warrior you have been and I wish you continued success.

As someone who's just started posting in the forum after reading it for a long time, I hate to hear of such negative experiences but I'm not surprised. Some people will always take advantage of others -that's just the nature of things.

I don't post much because frankly I have little to offer in terms of advancing the conversation on a particular topic. I hate to think that someone would see my low post count or relative newness to the forum as a reason to automatically assume I was out to get something for nothing and take advantage of someone.

Not all of us are here to pester experienced and knowledgeable members with inane questions and an attitude of entitlement. I'm looking to learn and make long term business decisions and contacts over time.

While it is true though I'm new to Internet marketing I am a successful businessperson and learned that you simply treat people with respect and courtesy you will be paid back manyfold in terms of long-term friendships and alliances.

I hope that the shortsighted actions of a few will not lead to an overall climate of cynicism to new posters such as myself.

I could tell you stories. I find an attitude from top to bottom that if you put anything in your sig you are somehow getting more than you are giving back and should jump through hoops and give back to them for free.

I'd bet good money that if you asked the guys who did this they would have a sense that they are entitled to it because its free information.

This is why I hardly respond to threads, even if the info given out is straight BS.

Tell me something new Yukon.

With all the mess with Google and their constant spy on us, the amount of idiots floating in this forum and the "quality" of some information shared in here (both free and SEO WSO's) it's perfectly clear to me why some of us NEVER share anything NEW here.

It's a shame, but we all have damn good reasons to be out of here.

You may as well just write articles about what you know of it, while being less transparent about how you do your SEO...

You could give a paragraph summarizing what they're asking about as far as the SEO goes, and you could write "for more information go to this article" while having your own article monetized and all of that.

-worst they could probably do is spin your article as their own copy of it.

Many people are only use and abuse. It is human nature for some. Others are not like that and those are the people that we try to help.

I look at it this way. If I can help one person to become a success online then that is all that matters.

For the people that think only of themselves, someday it will turn around on them and when they are down no one will help them back up. Never loss faith that what you do helps many people. Take pride in what you have done for people and forget the people that live my cheating others.

There are people who are just good in taking advantage of the opportunities. But don't let the bad guys interfere with your good intentions. You can still share what you want to share. It is your own choice if you want to answer the extra queries you get, but if you think they are over-doing it then simply delete all of them.

Yukon, I'm so sorry that this happened to you!

Please, don't let a few ungraceful users stop you from helping everyone else, though. I really like reading your informative posts, and while I've never PM'd you (well, OK, I did once ), I would hate to not be able to in the future.

Simply put, there are some that are, like you said, ungrateful for any help or advice they receive (the folks who sold your info are probably not that grateful offline, either), but there are also others who appreciate even the slightest bit of help or info.

Don't let the former stop you from helping the latter.

I know that Yukon is one of the 'givers' on this forum,so I guess it comes as a kick in the b***s when someone abuses that generosity.

Both ends of the evolutionary scale frequent this Forum. There are people that would boil their Grannies down for glue if they could get a few bucks, and there are people that would give you their last dollar.I guess that's just human psychology 101.

I know that it's not much of a consolation prize, but for every ahole here there are 10 good people.

You may well be right Steve

It was purely a generalisation in an off the cuff manner and not scientifically researched in any way, shape or form!

That being said I do firmly believe that there is a lot more
good than bad here.

P.S. You are the first American I have heard use 'maths' as opposed to 'math'
....kudos to you!

Something similar happened to me in the early days as a expert when I used a popular UK forum. I use to help everyone with PPC but I was left disgusted and felt used by this person who use to tax my brain of knowledge on a regular basis. "What goes around comes around".

It's not easy to be polite when you hear things like this!

Yukon is on here almost every day HELPING people by giving valuable information for FREE, for someone to turn around and try to cash in off that is just disgraceful.

I know what you say'n Yuks... this forum is filled with sewer rats... if you think people stealing ideas via PM is lame... then you will be amazed how many people take the free advice we offer here in the SEO-sub-forum and turn it into a WSO... IT'S SICK

Don't change who you are--I'm similiar--because the world needs us!

Interesting I would read this post today. Just this morning for only a few minutes I was informed about how badly some people were doing whom I had helped tremendously in offline business who ended up causing me some pretty severe short term harm.

In finding this out, I then took a minute and looked back over the ONLY times I was really harmed in any serious way in business was when I was helping someone.

Even though, I still continue to help people.

I always have said, "you may hurt me for the short run, but you won't hurt me for the long run."

and

"what goes around, comes around."

And so far, this has been true. I have ended up doing ok or even really well and in a relatively short time, those others have done really bad and ran into even more troubles.

So you're saying someone is selling a WSO on here with what you taught them?

Personally I'd change the title to "Lesson Learned - Wasting Time on WarriorForum When I Should Be Making Bank"

Yukon, I really wish that your story was an isolated incident. I've heard of a ton of stories like this. In fact, I helped a few people via Skype with their sites and recovering from the Panda update and saw so much of this information in a couple of crappy wsos. Did they get it from me? It sure looks like it. Am I annoyed? You bet I am, especially since I consider it fraud when someone who knows nothing creates a wso and leads other newbies astray because they don't know what they're doing. Am I going to stop helping? No. Why? Simply because the bottom feeders will NOT define the person that I am or want to be.
