So I'm going to create my second site. My first site went as well as a poke in the eye. I want to know how I can get traffic to my site. I need good adsense safe traffic I would pay for a lot if anyone can help. Also what are backlinks and how do they work.

Organic traffic is the way to go.

PPC is one option that you can do.

If you are talking about sending traffic that guarantees AdSense clicks, I would stay away, Google doesn't like that.

You can run your site in a PPC like adwords, but it is a losing
proposition. And, your site must be monetized by something
other than adsense as its number one revenue. Many adsense
site owners do follow this and use adwords. That why they
send adsense users tons of free adwords vouchers begging
them to try their sites in it.

The very best way to get better traffic is to generate the
traffic yourself. Find targeted users. One of the best
ways is through forums that allow sig links. Find one in
your niche and become ACTIVE.

Twitter is also an option, as well as facebook. Join blogspot
and make a blog that coincides with the site. Make squidoo
lenses that are in the niche and backlink like an animal.

You can also do email. Do this carefully. I was going to explain
how to do it without breaking the rules, but edited that out.
I have never given that secret out, and have decided to wait.
Email is one of the best ways for targeted traffic. Emailing
links is not against TOS. But tons and tons of it makes you
look a tad funny. But it should be repeated that email is
one of the best ways of getting targeted traffic.

To have good adsense safe traffic you can do SEO. If you use adsense then Goggle will not support it and may be your site will get high bounce rate. So its better to generate the organic traffic.

Hey, buying traffic for adsense might ban your account. They were smart and they will know if you were buying traffic or not.

SEO is the way to go. I have tried many, many traffic sources and absolutely none is as good as people finding your site through natural search results (using your email list is maybe a little different as they have already found your site in order to be on your list).

But there is more to SEO than just getting backlinks - this is off page SEO. Not all backlinks are equal, there are high quality backlinks that carry a lot of weight with the search engines and low quality backlinks that carry little or no weight.

Then there is on page SEO which IMO is even more important than off page SEO.

It is a steep learning curve.

BTW, the poster who suggested becoming an authority in your niche by posting on relevant forums gives good advice. This is good for direct traffic and also excellent for SEO.
