Basically I was (accidentally) running MS without proxies enabled (even though I have Squid Proxies) without realizing it and got a call from my ISP. They didn't shut me down BUT I'm very anal now about using MS and making sure that I have the best system in place for disguising its activities. Does anyone here use Magic Submitter and if so what do you trust/use? What's the difference between a VPN and VPS, also? What are the price points, pros/cons, and who are the best players in town for each? REALLY appreciate the help here, I figured I could just start using MS again but ensuring that it's using proxies but I wanted to make sure I had the best solution to ensure that my ISP or nobody can trace activity back to my IP. Thanks! |

A VPN and VPS are two completely different things. Virtual Private Network in really simple terms is similar to using a proxy. It encodes your entire connection. Two advantages, and why I use a VPN over proxies, is they are far cheaper and most VPN's allow you to automatically rotate your IP address. I like HideMyAss (in my signature), but there are others out there that are pretty good, like StrongVPN. A VPS is a Virtual Private Server. Think of it like an extra computer located somewhere else. You can connect to it remotely through your home computer (if you are using Windows, Remote Desktop Connection works fine) and use it just like you would your home computer. Couple advantages... First, it has its own internet connection. Whatever you do through your VPS, is not going to be noticed at all by your ISP. Second, you can leave it on running 24/7 without hogging up your home computer or having to leave your home computer on all the time. That is great for something like MS and its scheduler. My favorite VPS provider is currently out of stock. Not sure when they will have more in. I have two VPS's right now. On one of them MS, BMD, and AMR are running pretty much all the time. I also have my VPN running on there rotating the proxy every 45 minutes. The other one I use almost solely for Scrapebox. Scrapebox is the one tool I would recommend proxies versus a VPN. A VPN does not rotate the IP address fast enough to be of use to Scrapebox. Hope that helps. |

VPS + Proxies. the VPS gives you the benefit of freeing up your own PC, and in some cases more importantly, your bandwidth. The costs are usually minimal. (About $20 or less a month if you look around.) I use http://www.websiteserviceplus.com. Decent semi-dedicated proxies will run you about $10 for 5-10. My preference is Buy proxies for scrapebox, xrumer, twitter| where to buy proxies |

Some other cheap VPS recommendations: 1. xsserver.com - fast support, but you have to make a ticket every time a server crashes (no remote reboot). 2. hostamus.com - run by a great dude, good prices if you search for promo offers. Also got to make a support ticket for reboots (no remote reboot), but they are working on a full control panel at the moment. |
