Default Newbie starting out in SEO

Hi,

I am new to this and I think im going to find this site incredibly useful.

I was into business analytics and management but am now in SEO. But before I join the War Room I think I need to know a lot more. I've done some reading and I kind of know whats going on but when I read what you guys post on here and other sites I realise I know literally nothing.

Is there a good FAQ or someting I can get to? Is there anything I can focus my learning towards while Im working on some basics (for a client with literally no idea at all)

Im doing page optimisation at the moment (keyword research and mapping) and it seems pointless unless there is linkbuilding along side it. Here I get lost.

For newbies starting up with SEO I always recommend the SEOmoz Beginners Guide. There is a lot of good info here on Warrior Forum, but there you have it all in one place.

Agreed! SEOmoz is really helpful and if you keep studying it regularly you can get lots of ideas and also can help you to always get updated with new SEO trends and practices etc. Warrior is also a good place where you'll find lots of SEO based discussions, that can also help you to get so many useful tricks!

Maybe maybe not. Remember its a forum. the nature of the beast is that many people post who have no idea what they are talking about. Forums contain both information and misinformation and are not the best place to learn to make that distinction and especially not some place where there are a lot of sellers. My suggestion is go to somewhere well known and who has authority teaching SEO like SEomoz and look around until you know enough to discern

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Besides the technical stuff, most newbies really need to get their head straight about what they are getting into.

This is a business like any other. There is no software of one time system that will automatically just make you money.

You need a plan, a method, focus, persistence and work and yes, you can make money.

No need to spend a lot of money because there is a lot of good stuff for free or real cheap. I would however advice you to join the War Room immediately. (I get nothing for telling you to do that, btw.) And the sooner the better.

There is stuff in there for free that the sales price is as much as or MORE than your lifetime membership of $37 bucks (or whatever it is now.)

Don't "throw the baby out with the bathwater" just because there are some scammers, don't assume everyone is one.

When something sounds too good to be true, instead of assuming it is a scam wait and watch to see what reports come out for a couple weeks before you jump on board.

If it is free, try it out for a month or so and find out for yourself.

And regardless of what else you do, build a list. It is an asset that you own and pays you again and again regardless of changes that go on online elsewhere in SEO, adsense and other things all the time.

Good luck.

There's a lot of free and paid information resources available online for SEO.

I know Mario brown and Brian Anderson are the authors of Backlink takeover and SEO takeover which is a good foundation to start off with.To the point and jargon free.

Duncan Carver may be of help with his ebook called the ulitmate link building dossier.

Hope this helps,

Paul

I wouldn't focus so much on SEO only. SEO is a largely mechanical process. Concentrate on marketing and social media at least as much as the SEO part.
