I've been doing some keyword research today for Adsense sites using the Google keyword tool and my criteria for a useable keyword are: -At least 1,600 exact local searches -50,000 or less "keyword in quote" in Google (I'm not too strict on this as I've ranked well for terms with many more pages returned in Google, as long as the SEO competition is relatively weak ) -Relatively weak top 10 SEO results in Google (low or weak back-links, no or sub-par SEO for title - H1 - Description, and low PR) My problem is finding more than a few keywords that match these terms. If I only find a few good keywords (2 or 3), what should my next step be? Should I make a small site with only a few articles, or should I move on to another niche? Any advice for getting more keyword choices? |

Just keep searching is the best advice I could give, the more keywords you find that meet your criteria the more money you can make.

In addition to your main keyword with 1600 searches you can use several long tail keywords with 500-1500 searches. "moisturizing lotions for the face" "moisturizing lotions for scalp" (don't know their search numbers, just an example) |

| I was leaning towards using some lesser trafficked keywords, thank you for the reassurance.

what I am doing now is after keyword research, in a similar form as yours. I will put up one 800-1000word article and run it through seo pressor plugin to get 90 -100% score and then send traffic to it and then after a week has passed ad my adsense code and add another long article. Ihave had good results this way. hope this helps |

Stop wasting your time by searching for your keywords in quotes and caring about how many results there are. That has nothing to do how difficult a keyword is to rank for. I can find 100 keywords that meet your criteria (minus the silly search results thing) in less than 10 minutes of work. Work smart, learn what matters and what doesn't. There are literally BILLIONS and BILLIONS of keywords. If you're willing to put in a little work you can surely find as many as you want. |

Based on those 2 or 3 keywords, try add some longtail keywords? That's what I usually do, but most of my sites are based on micro niche. So if you just find 2 or 3 keywords, make a small site will be a good choice, though it may not bring you much benefits, it won't take you much time to rank or maintain, either.

The longer I earn with Adsense the clearer it becomes that Macro niche sites are the way to go... that is, stop going for sites that have 1 keyword like "Red Yoga Mat" and start going for broader categories like "Yoga Mats" or just "yoga". In general, I find it is worth the work to tackle "medium competition" niches with a 10-25 page site that can earn quite a bit monthly vs. launching maximized MFA sites with 4 articles that earn 15-25 bucks a month. Full disclosure, I still build both types of sites. |
