Unnatural links message from big G

Anyone have experience with this message and SERP fluctuations?

I received this message for one of my sites in my webmaster tools in the middle of December. When I noticed the message I checked all my rankings and there was no negative fluctuations, if anything the majority of my rankings went up. Until Jan 8th, when a good chunk of my higher traffic keywords, including the root domain rankings all dropped between 5-10 positions, NOT pages!

Some of my rankings stayed put at #1 on a few pages, and my PR still remains intact.

I'm not sure if this is a penalty, or just a site wide dance. If it were a penalty I feel as though it would be a lot worse and ALL my rankings would be affected from what I;ve read so far from other people.

If you have experienced this message before I and I'm sure others would appreciate if you could answer some of these questions.




When you received the message did your site drop in rank before, same day, or after?

How far did your site drop and was it across the board with all your keywords or just a few pages and root domain?

Did the site ever come back and how long did it take?

If yes to above, What did you do to get it to come back? I heard the penalty lasts 90 days if you do nothing and then will come back by default.

Funny enough I have a similar story. I got the same message about 3 weeks ago. I saw no penalty or anything on the site. Then yesterday all keywords the homepage ranked for dropped from top 10 to the 200-500's and my second highest traffic page did the same but all other pages and keywords still rank nice and high. Very odd, ive never seen a penalty where the homepage gets destroyed but all else still ranks.

Well it's bad news for me that you received the message and then seen a drop 3 weeks later as this further solidifies that it is indeed a penalty.

However my fluctuation was much much lighter than yours which is still odd to me.

This is really marketing funda of some fake ids don’t give so importance on that type of mail

OP, these are real messages at webmasters tools. Google wants you to remove all links - even the ones you didn't create.

And yeah, expect your site(s) to drop dramatically next days/weeks.

People just cant believe that the old claim that you can't be hurt by links is false. Ton loads of people have been penalized and received that message. Several major Search engine news sites have reported it too but they are in denial.

OP if the site makes you any money remove spammy links fast and ask for a reconsideration

i totally agree with this! Do not ignore any of the webmaster tools messages!

Try to remove any spam links you might have done and add only white hat links!
