Optimizing website for client with very little content - Help please!

Hi guys,

For a client of mine I'm optimizing his website for a couple of local terms, not too competitive but still need to tick all the boxes for on-page seo.

However... his website has very little content. Just a few headings and some pictures among the pages. What is the best way to still optimize the on-page stuff?

Will it be enough to still do the other stuff (titles, alt-tag, etcetera) for some nice rankings without some serious content ? The website and product is not really suitable to put long articles on it.

With Panda out it's very difficult to rank website with small content, every page should have at least 600 words. Even if you manage to rank it it will not stay on top too long.

That is complete and utter bull****.

For a business, the content of the page should be written for the users, not for SEO. If it makes sense for the business to not have a lot of text, there is nothing wrong with that.

I have several clients like this. Maybe 250 words on their homepage at the most, and some have zero keywords in the title tag, h1 tags, or anywhere on the page. Still easy to rank, especially in local markets. Focus on good quality backlinks, local directories, and request links from any local vendors or partners they do business with. You can also utilize press releases, if appropriate. I am not one of those people that advocates releasing press releases just to release press releases. If there is a reason and it makes sense, do it. If you do a press release, do not just submit it to all the free press release directories everyone else abuses. Call the local newspapers and try to get them to run it as well.

So if I want to rank individual pages on the website for different keywords, it's best to build quality backlinks with the right anchor texts to these individual pages? I'll try to get the on-page factors as optimized as possible obviously, but tons of content is just not plausible and desirable.

And what if a business wants to rank for different local terms, i.e. different cities? You don't want to name all kinds of cities in headings and throughout the content when the pages are on products of services...

You can just build links with those terms as anchor text. For example...

homes for sale dover
homes for sale york
homes for sale lancaster

About the only place I'll stuff in additional cities if I deem it necessary, is in the footer. You can put something like, "Serving York, Lancaster, Harrisburg..."

In the past I've bought a couple of great WSOs that got me in the right direction, besides using this forum and the War Room of course.

For backlinks I can remember Backlink Takeover by Mario Brown and Brian Anderson as a great resource. You can probably find it here somewhere.

You can write content for every subject but it may require to to spend time and research the net in order to gather some good points before beginning to write contents about your subject. You have mentioned that your clients' sites lack enough contents and the niches and subjects are in a way which may not be that easy to write about. You can get in touch with copywriters who would be able to help you or simply take a look at websites of the main competitors.

Naturally, you will find other top-ranking websites in your targeted niche and while checking them out, you will find useful materials. They can help you having the main ideas for possible articles to be written, then the next step would be spending time and using your skills to produce unique and original contents. Paragraphs length would never seem to be an important issue, sometimes even a few text links, if written originally will help your pages having good ranks.
