Domain Extensions and EMD's

Are extensions really that important when coming to buying a site for MNS activity? I see org extensions available when net has already been taken on plenty sites. Does it really matter?

Along with EMD's, does it matter if you add an "s" to your target keyword at the end?

Ive heard a lot of talk about EMD's not being as important since the last update and also heard its one of the most important factors. So which is it?
