I have two sites with similar content one performs well and the other doesn't. Right the both sites are linked to each other and I'm thinking about just shuting one off. The problem is that the site that doesn't dure well has 3500 back links to the one that does. It is a PR 1 with very limited traffic. Do you think I'd be shooting myself in the foot by shutting it off? Thanks for your input! |

Backlinks go up and down all the time. Ever been on a blogroll? I can't speak specifically to your situation, but I have had 5000 one week, 2000 the next week, because 3000 fell off a blogroll, and my ranking stayed the same. Besides, as far as we know, Google may really only be counting those 3500 backilinks as one. |

You should not stop that site instead work hard on that site and try to analyze the error.Backlinks are hard to obtain so don't try to give up the site with that much of backlinks.

Google places importance on the number of unique, URLs for your backlinks. Having thousands of links from a single URL does not impress Google.

If the contents of the two sites are quite similar that means your are competing with your own and dividing your effort. In this case better to concentrate on one. Don't shut down the other but leave it as it is.

Since the Panda update, I completely re-thought my SEO strategy. I'm learning targeting high-quality PR links (with low OBLs) and blog networks are the way to go. It's crazy because pre-Panda you could just blast out 50k profile links, maybe 10% would stick, and your SERPs would climb. This isn't true anymore. In fact, I am noticing blasting spamming links don't do anything but, perhaps, lower your SERPs. Then again, it's still good to diversify. Think of it this way, one PR6 backlink with low OBLs is worth 15,625 PR0 profile links. And that's only if those backlinks stick or even get indexed by search engines at all and very few will. Try guest blogging. That's a good way to get high-quality backlinks! |
