Dear Warriors, I have been trying to make some money online for a few years now and I was really happy to get a couple of my sites to PR 5. Then I had a bright idea to take the single pages down and replace them with a content filled wordpress. Within days my sites all dropped to 0. What did I do wrong and is there anything I can do to reverse this bad news ! Thanks for your help habby dhillon |

Check where your incoming links are going to other than your domain index. If there are any, do 301 redirects to the new pages or to the index. This should take care of the problem over time as Google re-spiders your site and it goes through a PR update. Here's how you can do the 301 Redirect: 301 Redirect - How to create Redirects |

or alternatively recreate the missing pages as standalone html files on your site.

You will be fine in a few weeks, Wordpress often times automatically forwards ::: YOURNAME.COM ::: to ::: YOURNAME.COM ::: - which drops the host www

Were these sub pages that dropped in value? If so the other posts were correct and you need to do a 301 redirect. You need to point any old file names to new file names. Even if your website was previously a yoursite.com / index.html and now it is yoursite.com / index.php - you should redirect your old index file to your new index file.

Once you have a good ranking on your pages you never, ever want to make large changes to those pages. Instead, use the new information as additional pages. This is one of the worst things I see people do time and time again (aside from changing their domain names). The intention is always good, and oftentimes logical, but as far as the search engines are concerned, it's bad news. One of the reasons your PR may have dropped so rapidly was because a well-known black hat SEO technique is to first create a page that the search engines love, and then, once that's ranked and indexed well, replace it with another page. It could be that Google believes you are trying to trick them in some way. Just try to put the pages back the way they were if you can. - Kristine | |

That's actually the best advice you could wish for from Iowagal, but also, try to get out of the Mind Meld over pagerank, if you are relying on the toolbar to see if you are creeping back up, then you will have a long long wait. Use Google Tools and forget the greenbar |

Just to share. When I convert my html site to a self-hosted wordpress blog, my PR went from 3 to 0 within a day. It take about 2 months before I get it to PR2. Another funny thing is recently, I convert a auto-blog which is a PR 0 to wordpress blog and it immediately get a PR2 I am still puzzle - it seem there is no logic. |
