It's free, you just need to have Firefox installed for it to work.

The Rank Checker Firefox extension is one of the better free options. Advanced Web Ranking is pretty good if you're looking for a paid option.

Wouldn't the result of checking this way only give you an indication where you are SERP ing for searches from that location?

Google.co.uk and Google.com don't return the same results.
