hello all,

is social bookmarking worth the effort in terms of seo benefits and traffic generation?

been the proud owner of 3 product review sites for over a year now and other than when i 1st began, i've never used any social bookmarking as part of my attack.

should i start incorporating SB into my seo/traffic generation or is it dying off?

But again I think it depends on your business, but it's not just about promoting yourself and posting endless tweets etc. - you need to build relationships and target the right people - get involved, help people out, comment on how you enjoyed something they posted, if you genuinely did, and if it's relevant to your market.

Social bookmarks will help rank sites for keywords that were not previously ranked in most cases.

I'd like to add to this thread with my own thoughts of social bookmarking.

I do think social bookmarking still works for SEO. Especially if the bookmarks are high-quality content bookmarks, they perform very well.

There are three tools I use or used in the past for social bookmarking, there's usually a paid AND free alternative and the free alternative is usually a good starting point for beginner IMers.

1. Social Marker - this is a good tool to use as a starting point. The famous Social Marker submits your bookmarks to sites of your choice, and you have to have an account with all of them and connect them with Social Marker in order to submit your bookmarks. Fortunately, you can outsource the tedious and time-consuming account creation at Fiverr and focus on the social bookmarking creation and submission part (heck, you can even outsource those. )

2. Social Monkee - This is another good tool. This is one of the tools that have a free and paid version, free is all you need at the beginning, but if you do have the money, I can highly recommend the paid version, as well. Social Monkee submits your bookmarks to sites they own, so you can avoid your bookmarks appearing on the same sites, because the Social Monkee sites are not the same as with Social Marker.

3. Social Adr - Probably the best tool out of all I mention in my reply, Social Adr rocks. It works as a credit system, you submit other people's bookmarks and earn credits for doing so, then you take the credits and spend them to let other people ad your bookmarks to their accounts, walls, etc.

Social bookmarks are really useful for SEO purposes, traffic and exposure to your website. I believe that social bookmarks are giving our content such high exposure even after the Panda update.

Social bookmarking definitely helps with traffic generation. It is also another good source of backlinks for your sites.

Social Bookmarking is quite effective but if you are thinking that this will help you to boost your SERP for competitive keywords than this is not possible.

If you have new blogs or new websites than social bookmarking will help your website to get index faster.

If you have tonnes of pages than picking small packages such as Top 20 or Top 40 will be very much effective, provided all been done with different accounts and with different IPs.

Social bookmarking definitely be helpful for getting more traffic to the site. But only the need is to provide unique and useful content with related title in your submission. And be more careful in placing the title as it is the only thing that will attract people click on your link.

I only use it now and again if I cant get a site indexed. I don't really rely on it for traffic or rankings though.
