Does Socialbookmarking still work?

Hi guys, I just wanted your input on this question. According to your opinion and experience, is social bookmarking still a good and effective way of building quality backlinks? If yes, then which do follow social bookmarking websites do you find the most effective?

I dont think they are "quality" backlinks, but they are helpful if you index them. But social bookmarking is not the best method and you should not solely rely on it.

Scenario A: spam social bookmarking sites for backlinks. That dosen't work.

Scenario B: Join and become an active member of the community, and drive tons of traffic to your site. That can certainly work.

They do work for me and the one i use the most is digg. There are others also that i use but digg is the best of them.

Yes why not it is still very effective and important method to rank your site fast and get good traffic, but there is more need to make your community on these sites.

bookmarking like digg, delicious, squidoo, faves, reddit etc is still the good option. I checkd it in analytics and noticed that i get some traffic from these sites. so, i think its a good option to bookmark on these sites

From my experience, there are lots of nofollow bookmark sites, few dofollow sites. However, those bookmarks also required to build up a SEO strategy in order to make the natural backlinking processes. So, even if they offer dofollow or nofollow - it is better to have them. However, there are bookmark sites which are filled with spammy content and use to disappear quickly - do not get links from those sites as far as those do not have QUALITY....

Go for NOFOLLOW or DOFOLLOW bookmark sites if they have QUALITY and have good PR or etc... that really helps, do not ignore that method of getting backlinks.

Social Bookmarking still works but this should be only one of many backlinking methods.

Unless you have an extremly low competition keyword SB alone won`t help you grab top search engine rankings.

However What I would recommend you to do is to create a nice website (good design) using an seo friendly theme (atahualpa is the best in my opinion and it`s also free)

Post usefull and unique content on your website regulary. The content must be informative to the reader so they will come back to your website for more.

Including pictures with the posts might be a good ideea to improve how your website looks.

Why am I saying this ?

Well after the latest Panda updates Google looks at "social signals" for a particular site. Social signal mean facebook likes, twiter shares, google +1`s etc... The more you have the better. So yes SB it`s important but your main goal would be to have other do this for you (your visitors) and the only way you can achieve this is by having a nice design with good, unique and informative content.

As far as I can tell, social bookmarking worked for me. However, lately I have been using another method for seo. There is even a wso thread I saw that advertised social bookmarks and the seller had the example of a site that was said to have ranked high fast.

Still good to use them but not a huge focus these days. The only way to tell which ones will help you however is through testing since every niche has a different community. There are the top ones however like Twitter, Facebook and so on and so forth however I think you really should test them yourself.

Also if one does grow huge or change its coding to help for SEO at least you are already there for it.
