How do you use Market Samurai?

After reading so many instances of people saying that the best tool for key word research is Market Samurai, I decided to give it a try. I tried it once before but didn't like it. I didn't really know how to use it. But I am giving it another try.

So what I want to know is how do you use it to find the best key words for your sites? What settings do you use to pick out the competition levels you can rank for? Or, what ever else you use to determine if a key word is worth going after?

It's junk man. You can find better keywords, faster using free methods. Only thing it's good for IMO is SEO competition, but I like the free version of traffic travis better for that.

MS is slow and clunky for keyword research I find.
So what I do is do all my keyword research first, then chuck the results into the keyword section in MS after that. I use MS to give me competing pages data.

Google keyword tool
Google instant
SEM Rush
Alexa
Google alerts

Truly agree. I always found the free manual methods for searching the right keyword much more easier than using some tool.

And I was about to make the mistake of buying MS just because of its rank tracker and competition checker, but then I realized that Traffic Travis is free for both things.

I stopped using it awhile ago. Instead, I go straight to the source. The Google Keyword Tool with an Adwords account. It's much faster and provides the same data.

Recently I've been doing things a bit differently though. Using the Google Keyword Toll I'll grab all of the keywords / phrases that I'd like to use which have at least 500 monthly searches. (I'm willing to go as low as 500 if it's a buyer oriented keyword. Others may not want to go that low.) Then I'll plug them into the SEO competition module in Traffic Travis and analyze the top 10 competition for all of the terms I'm interested in. Usually end up with a good amount of easy to rank keywords this way.

Market Samurai uses google kw database, but its a third party vendor so they have to stand in line behind and share the pipes going into google with all the other vendors, thats why kw research is slow............with Market samurai

Google KW tool USES THE MAINFRAME GOOGLE COMPUTERS (Direct Access) and they use it FROM GOOGLE, so its 1000 times faster than third party vendors, so why use Market samurai? for kw research, when Google kw tool is so much faster ?


I use Market Samurai to analyze top 10 competition, on that its pretty fast, about 20 secs maybe per kw, to spit out all the competition factors, and it does it AT A GLANCE, not like SEO quake, which does not make it easy to view the top 10

Not sure if you've tried Traffic Travis free version, but I find it much faster than MS. Might be worth taking a look.

for me it wont return ANY backlinks , 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0 and yes I updated it to the latest version

Haha. No. Just the way I've been doing things for awhile now. I'll be checking out your video though. If you're teaching the same or similar method I'd suggest that everyone opts-in and watches the video because the method absolutely works.

I think that I have a different experience from everyone else here. I did find it slow and buggy when i first started using it but it's improved a lot. You just get the odd day when it misbehaves. Whenever I've had any trouble their customer service has been nothing short of excellent.

Knowing the competition for your keyword is essential and the Google Keyword Tool won't give you any detailed information on competition. MS tell you exactly how many backlinks etc that your competition has so you can then make a judgment to go for this keyword or try something less competitive.

Their training videos are on their site in the Dojo area and they're sooo easy to follow. I highly recommend the product.

I'm fairly sure that Traffic Travis lets you do the same thing in the free version.

Yet it accomplishes the exact same thing. Only difference is Traffic Travis is faster and I have never had it become unresponsive like Market Samurai. Not to mention it also is not a resource hog like MS.

I actually like how Traffic Travis 4 looks. Simple, fast, and to the point.

By the way, packerfan, awesome video. Somewhat similar to what I do, but you definitely took it a step further. I'm going to be following your method next time I'm researching a ton of keywords.

Anyone who hasn't done so, opt-in and watch the video. Better than most WSO's and done using 100% free tools. (I'm pretty sure Libre Office can accomplish most of the same things that MS Office does.)

Market Samurai is the best when you need to check your competition. It saves me a lot of time. When when speak about keyword research I prefer google tools. Market Samurai is slow for me. However it's very good tool and worth the money.

Not too sure about that.

Some work is best done manually, sure. But I'd much rather plug 10 keywords into the SEO competition module of Traffic Travis and let it go to work.

I disagree. These tools are designed for the exact purpose of trimming down the amount of manual work needed. As others, have stated MS is great for checking SEO competition in top 10. Keeping in mind that data is not always 100% accurate; I have found conflicting data when comparing with other tools' results.

Another thing i use it for is finding content related to my keyword. It can give you a list of dozens of articles, videos, blog entries etc. at the click of a button, which I can then use to send to my article writers as a reference for their articles they write for me. Takes about 2 minutes.

as mentioned for key research there are 101 variations people like to use, but once that is done I find MS a good tool, but I do things / added parts that help and I suppose I use it now as a guide where everything is at.

Saying that at the moment it is like flying blind into battle as the rank tracker is down and faulty, so you have no idea how things are going in building your position, which makes things very very painful.

I am sure they will fix it, but customer service is either slow or they are under attack from people wanting it fixed.

Market Samurai is not my favourite method for keyword analysis.
But since you asked about MS I will tell one thing this tool is good at:
- backlink analysis, you can do very quick analysis of anchor text and PR of backlinks to your competitors.
- SEO competition is good

The biggest problem with MS is speed, it's really, really slow. If I was not preselecting keywords before using it, it would take me much longer.

But I'm for Long Tail Pro, because you can analyze multiple keywords at a time.

Like many here, I only find it useful now for "at-a-glance" competition analysis in the SEOC module. Keyword research I find much quicker in GKWT. Rank tracker still has it's place but I think the key is not to try to analyse too many at once - so spread them over a few "pages" using the "new keyword" feature within each project.

What should I be looking for on GKT?

It usually has the keywords with less searches as higher competition.

Should I be looking for the highest searched terms that I use and include them often in my blog? Still learning and a little confused.... Thanks

I prefer Micro Niche Finder. Been using it for, I think, 2-3 years now. It's great and very easy to use.

I have been using MS, but recently I am finding it difficult for keyword research, it is not the question of speed but the question of the output.

If I use their so called Golden Rules, I could see almost all the keywords gets filtered and it lets me hardly 1 or 2 keywords, I could see this happen in almost any niche whether competitive or not.

Do anyone has the same issue, what would be the new settings for their rules, I tried to write to support team they do replied but there isn't clear in the answer.

I am quite confused whether to continue MS for keyword research or to use Free tool or any other tool?

All these keyword tools pull heir data from Google adwords external tool. So it is better using that one as your foundation to keyword research.

Agree. I only use TT for the competition analysis. Though I will also check the top 5 sites manually.

Well, I too agree that most of these tools uses Google Adwords Tools, but most of the IM people say that MS to be the best tool. Also, can you using Google Adworlds Tool functions select the best keywords?
