Trying to improve SEO for WP site and struggling...

Hi guys, I've been a long time lurker on the forums

I'm hoping someone can give me some pointers as to what I'm doing wrong, or need to do better...

My partner and I have a fitness training business in Glasgow called Standout Gym (I can't post a link because I'm not allowed!). We used to have a standard website, but have now switched to wordpress because it let's my partner - the non-techie one! - update the website easily. He's using a website model used by some big fitness guys in the US who have similar companies, basically making it a blog site. Looking at our local competition there are only maybe one or two doing this with their websites, most are more generic.

When I've done some SEO checking the front page of the site never seems to register. Does this make having a blog site not so good; should we have a more generic front page?

I'm currently working on meta and title tags for everything on the site, and have just linked to google analytics. We're also in the process of using content crooner to submit all of our articles to ezine sites, hopefully to get some backlinking. Also we're going to try out an Adwords campaign, and maybe facebook ads?

If anyone has any input about the website, thoughts, ideas, suggestions, comments, anything I'd love to hear it. We've been running for nearly a year but are finding it hard to get people to know we exist so things are starting to be a bit of a struggle. The clients we have love the gym, but I don't know how to find more!
