Adsense clicks

I noticed that sometimes when I have less than 10 page views I may have 3 clicks and yet sometimes I will have more than 100 page views without any clicks.
What must have been responsible for this?

I find that 'casual' or 'entertainment' kind of sites have more sporadic CTR. Or maybe its day-specific ad spending. I also find Google image traffic can have different CTR than SERP visitors.
