Keywords targeting the home page

Hello friends,
Facing a small problem please advise me what should be done in this situation?
Client has given some keywords but all the keywords are not targeting the main page but some of them are coming in search with inner pages of website. So to target all the keywords for home page do I have to start the SEO from the first step?
Members please give your valuable suggestions.

I suggest that you target 1-2 keywords for each page in your website, don't target all your keywords on your homepage

Hi mate,
I have seen some cases in which a website has targeted many keywords (20-30) for the main page and is in top 10 results for them. (Rare Cases)

But , what i personally do is, I create inner pages and optimize each page for 3-4 keywords because this way I even rank better then the domains having exact keywords in domain name and good optimization.

This is the best option that will help you in ranking your product pages well in search engine. If the visitors land on your home page and they don't find what they are searching for, they will just leave your website and land opn another one.

Your main page should target your main keyword, a broad term or a money keyword, then target 1-2 keywords max per page/post.
Make sure each post leads back to the main page and that you have a strong inner link structure, so that your pages and post will spill some of the link juice to each other.
