Why do e-commerce sites rank high? After all, every page on their site hasnt got a lot of content -usually 50-100 words. |

Content is important but the big e-commerce sites have so many backlinks that it give them enough strength to rank on that alone.

Also, ecommerce stores that have a lot of products can use the power of the Google Products Datafeed to ensure they're included in the shopping results. With the right keywords, they can gain a lot of free traffic. Plus, if ecommerce URLs are SEO friendly (many websites actually are not), then that helps a lot as well! Feel free to PM me if you need any clarification |

Listen, Google uses some factual items into their SE, and I bet one of them is a percentage for "e-commerce". Thats why some online shops show up that high. Imagine I search for "surfboards" - Google wants their users to see some shops with those items, instead of 10 sites filled with text about it, right? IMO it's that simple. |

| It's relative to the niche. If all the leading pages are short blurbs then it's more of the norm. Realistically, though, backlinks end up being the key ranking factor in Google or you would never see crappy content rank high. Which we do |

@ OP I think you already know why the rank high from the answers of posters above. However, I feel big G is an affiliate for them that is why these sites are ranked pretty high without much content. |

Those are companies like Macy's making millions of dollars with SEO and their marketing campaigns. Plus most of those sites are aged for a really long time.

Haha thanks for pointing out that the signature wasn't working dude - I appreciate that greatly ![]() URLs being SEO friendly means that the search engines, based on the actual URL, actually know what the product is on the page. For example, most ecommerce platforms have their product links as followers: www.yourdomain.com/productid=38473 What the heck is product id 38473(just an example)? However, if the actual product was say, for a red medium sized dog collar, then a SEO friendly URL would be as follows: www.yourdomain.com/red-medium-dog-collar So this would help out your store greatly ![]() Do you run and own an ecommerce store buddy?

Oh, I wasn't sure what you mean ...but to be fair that is just basic on page optimisation. You need to do that anyway if you have an affiliate site. To answer your question: no, I do not own an ecommerce sites. I have affiliate sites and also sites that focus on list building. I outsource most of the work, but I always like to learn new stuff! Have a good day!
