Relevant adsense not showing up

I have a 1 year old site with some 40 articles, all > 400 words, all regarding the same big niche, with some little niches, yet relevant adsense doesn't show up. I've checked and there are many advertisers in the niche, but relevant ads are not showing up.

What could be the cause here?

perhaps your onpage SEO? Titles kw density etc

backlink anchor text perhaps?
