I recently bought a domain name and after building my site, did all the usual things like submitting a sitemap. To get indexed quicker, I usually post a link to the site in a high PR site such as digg, etc. and get it into the index when they get crawled. So, that was a month ago and my site is still not indexed. Since then I repeated the process of posting links in 3 or 4 forums and still nothing. Not indexed. Since my domain was owned by at least one other person before me it now occurs to me that maybe my site got de-indexed by the previous owners and I'm now stuck with it. Is that possible? This has never happened to me before and I'm a little baffled. |

When you say " not indexed", do you mean that the site does not appear for your keywords or that the site does not appear when you search for the actual domain name? If the question sounds condescending, it was not meant that way. Many folks new to the game (and I can't really tell if this is you or not) confuse "not indexed" with "not ranking." If the site comes up when you search for the actual domain name, it's indexed. If not, you can try submitting the site for spidering directly via Google webmaster tools. |

Yes, I do actually mean not indexed. When I type "site:www.mysite.com" into google it finds no results. Submitting the site directly to google via webmaster tools was one of the first things I did and that was a while ago. That's what makes me wonder if the site was maybe sandboxed even before I bought it. Thanks |

I have heard of people selling/buying deindexed domains so it is possible. How much did you pay for the domain? Are the back links you built to the domain "dofollow" Does the domain have any existing back links built by the previous owner? |

It does sound like it hasn't been indexed yet has your site been cached? You can check using the seo book toolbar, but some sites take longer to index have you social bookmarked it and submitted the rss feed to rss directories plus you need to ping your site have you set up Google webmaster tools? If all that doesnt work you can actually contact Google and ask them if the site has been de indexed. Good luck

It could have indeed been de-indexed by Google because of the previous owner. Usually, it's for a "does not meet quality guidelines violations". Through Google's Webmaster Tools, you could file a reconsideration request and let them know that you are the new owner and have made changes to the site. Suzanne |

| https://www.google.com/webmasters/to...deration?hl=en File the request. Mention that you recently bought the domain. Be honest. If it's not a penalty, you'll get an automated response saying so. If it is, after 7-10 days, you'll receive a notice saying either the site is still in violation OR something saying that the "Manual Action was Revoked" and that your site will reappear in the SERPS soon. If they refuse your request and you have change the site completely from what it was before, then it maybe a fixed penalty that expires in a certain period of time. In that case, explaining you're a new owner might help your cause. |

De indexed and not ranking for your keywords are two separate things. When you say that you are deindexed it means that Google has not crawled your site and therefore it is not showing in the search results. A simple way to check this is to type your sites name like "www(dot)yoursite(dot)com" in the search bar and see if your site comes up or not. If it doesn't then it means you are not indexed. De-indexed means that you were indexed at some point but your site was removed by Google |
