Let's play a little game...

You get allocate 20 points across 7 on-page SEO factors.

The factors:
Keyword Density
Keyword in URL
Keyword In Title
Keyword In Meta Description
Keyword in <h1> tag
Keyword in <h2> tag
Keyword in <h3> tag
Keyword in "alt image"

You can use your 20 points however you see fit. You DO NOT have to give each factor a point.

Mine would look like this...

Keyword Density 6
Keyword in URL 2
Keyword In Title 4
Keyword In Meta Description 3
Keyword in <h1> tag 3
Keyword in <h2> tag
Keyword in <h3> tag
Keyword in "alt image" 1

Curious to what others think.

I know there other factors, and if you want to include them that's fine. But stick with the original list for the game!

Clear case where less is more. But some will stuff.

leads to a devaluing. Read: Spam.

Keyword in <h1> tag: 2
Keyword in <h2> tag: 1
Keyword in <h3> tag
Keyword in "alt image": 1

That's how I'd rank, giving not to many points to any particular point, but noting that keyword in url and title are very important.

not 1997.

Meta description should not even be on the list. Any scoring
where meta description gets more oomph than an <h1>heading
is a very lousy list. Forget 1997. I meant 1994.

hadn't thought about the negative. So you don't think including the keyword in the meta description helps at all? Interesting...

I think you forgot the most important one, internal linking. I would give about 15 points for internal linking.

The reason I gave <h2> such a high score is I like jump-links (a lot). I wrap my jump-link titles in an <h2> tag.

Like Mike mentioned above, If internal links was on the list I would have given that 10 points. That would have looked like this.
