It can create a community, and make your site more "sticky." (ie. people continue to come back). This will really only happen though if it is an active forum where people are posting every day. I've seen forums die out, because no one was posting. You need good moderators to assist.

A successful forum is a lot of work

I would look into picking up a wso or two on it before starting - I say this because I have contemplated the idea a couple of times for my niches and its pretty much a 24-7 task for a long time before you will see any financial benefits

Forget about forums, they are VERY hard to populate them.

WSO = Warrior Special Offers

Go to the Warrior Special Offers Forum to see what's available in the form of e-books and programs offered by other warriors.

As to the forum idea for a webpage, I guess it would be a good idea if your website deals in a subject that people want to talk about on a regular basis.

Creating a forum is a good strategy to gain repeat visitors. Creating one takes hard work, full effort and dedication. It won't be easy to start and manage a forum. Populating the community is a big challenge, people will only come and post if they see existing discussions.
