Multiple domains for the same webpage

Hello!

There is something I've been thinking about lately and I would appreciate if someone with more experience could explain me how it works.

Imagine that I have a niche site, foo.com, which I want to rank for keyword "foo". That site has a subpage, foo.com/bar, which I want to rank for the keyword "bar".

If the domain bar.com is available, would it make any sense to buy it and make it point to foo.com/bar, and then create the backlinks for bar.com instead of foo.com/bar? Is it in general beneficial to have several domains for a same niche site?
