Default Value of Backlinks from Low PR page on a High PR site?

Hi,

I see a lot of gigs on Fiverr and elsewhere offering high PR backlinks. In reality, these are backlinks from a PR0 page on a site with a high PR home page. My question is, are these links of any more value than any link from any PR0 page?

My instinct is that the high PR homepage means that the new links will get indexed more quickly, but apart from that they will have no more value. Am I right?

Thanks.

I agree with you Wilson but one more thing is there if that inner page is directly linked to your home page and the site is not too large, then it will get Home Page PR benefit also. Obviously if the site is very large then also inner page receives PR juice but then it will less valuable.

Hi Val,

You instincts are mostly correct. Websites don't have PR, PageRank is assigned to individual pages. So it doesn't matter much what the homepage PR is unless it is directly linked to the page where you link is placed. In some cases it is a link that is not far removed from the homepage and that can have some real value, but in most cases those pages are for removed from the homepage and it doesn't help much at all.

The real thing to look for is traffic, if it generates targeted traffic then it is also likely to pass link juice. Conversely, backlinks that provide no real traffic are rarely passing any significant link juice.

Really these links should be called "PR0" links because that's what they are. That, or N/A. Maybe down the road they'll have PR, but as you correctly figured out, they're not that big of a deal.

PR is a much bigger deal when you actually get a link from a page with PR on it, like the home page.
