What is currently the best Competition Analysis tool out there for evaluating keyword competition?

I personally use Market Samurai, Traffic Travis, and Ahrefs - Backlinks & SERPs Research Tool.

I tend to use Long Tail Pro and my brain to analyze competition. The only reason I use LTP for this is because it lays out all of the data for me to look at, which speeds up the process. But you still have to determine whether or not the competition is something worth going after for you.

If you are looking for a "green light" type of competition analyzer like what Micro Niche Finder has in it, I wouldn't recommend them. They are not usually very accurate. Especially when you consider that most everyone has their own factors that they consider when determining competition for a keyword.

You really don't need a tool to check competition though. Just open up firefox and analyze the important factors of the top 10 sites, backlinks, on page seo, pagerank, etc.

I had never heard of this Ahref tool. It looks promising. I would like to know how to use it effectively and I just tried the free version. I have used SEOmoz's Open Site Explorer and Raventools I think the functionality looks the same. Though the tool looks good, I would like you to add more features it provides as compared to the other two tools I have listed here

Hands down to Market Samurai! This is one of the best SEO tools I've ever had, especially in checking my own SEO competitors out there.

I am currently using Ahrefs tool and it really works well for finding the competitors back links.

I used traffic travis but it was not giving me the exact report..so I moved to market samurai and it was good but I dislike it for some reason and I love sitting and checking them manually

You look at the first and maybe second page of Google. That's it.

I long ago gave up "analyzing" competition with software, it's a waste of time and it can give you a false idea of what is achievable and what not. I seriously think so and i am not really new to keyword research and SEO.

On the other hand..you should continue using this kind of software and make your decisions based on what the software tells you - because this gives other people more room to happily rank for all kinds of keywords where you would not even attempt it

The ONLY halfway useful metric is SEARCHES per MONTH, imo.

You can also choose SEOMoz Tools for competitors analysis. There are quiet a lot of tools that can help you to analyze competitors backlinks, their keyword rankings and much more.
