One of my sites was ranking decently for more than a dozen keywords that I spot check periodically, until around Jan 7th when they all dropped 20-50 spots. Luckily most of those keywords bounced back yesterday to right around the same position they were before. But I've been heavily targeting one page on the site, with two keywords, which I was ranked 12 and 22. This morning before I left home those two keywords dropped about 30 spots from yesterday and when I got to work they weren't even in the top 1000. I did a spot check of the other keywords for the site and they haven't moved in the last 24 hours. Bottom line, targeting keywords with various off-page SEO techniques will cause your page to bounce around all over the place and sometimes drop off completely. Hopefully it comes back. ![]() FYI, I am using Pagerank checker SEO SERP web tools: Google Top 1000 SERPs checker: results many countries Google Pagerank SERPs index results web SEO tools to check my rank. |

Well it's reported that minor Google Panda updates hits and also Google Roll out Google's New Page Layout Update this week which effect 1% of results so we expect some keywords drop!

You can relax because you are not the only person or webmaster experiencing such ups and downs in web ranks and if you are referring to the changes as Google dance, they actually happen to almost all types of websites, new and old, in light and competitive niches. One thing which is almost certain is that the amount of changes which happen to web ranks, causing fluctuations can be in relation with the links counts of the sites, naturally newer sites will be shaken more. As gradually packs of more links are added to the websites, domains will tend to become heavier online, feeling more stable when it comes to dances or sudden changes in daily ranks. In some cases the ups and downs can be a good sigh of making progress online, when data centers of Google are going to update their data with the recent web stats. You may even expect to find better ranks for your site pretty soon as some dances could be temporary in some cases. |

Also don't forgot that Google also consider freshness of content as we already seen huge impact on results since Google Freshness algorithm update back in 2011! So we have to build content which is ever time popular rather than going for latest trends!

| Too much of a coincidence that the only term that dropped, right after most of the ones I watch bounced back, was the key term I am targeting the most. Only reason for the move is because of off-page SEO. I will let everyone know when and if it comes back and where it ranks in SERPs if it does.

it is likely a backlink anchor text over-optimization discount (penalty).

This is quite common so don't worry too much. I had a site bounce around for a year before it really settled down on page one.

All sites have a dance around especially when trying new seo techniques, they nearly all settle down when you start being consistent with your seo strategy.

Happened to my site - I installed the excellent yoast SEO plugin and realized I could improve my on page SEO a bit more. Google smacked ass out beyond 1000 pages. I expect its circling Pluto and should be coming back into sight again soon. |

That mostly applies to news results and niches where it makes sense to have fresh content. For the vast majority of niches it's nothing to worry about. | |
