It might sound a stupid question, but actually it makes sense. I heard that you can practically go to #1 position for almost all keywords with massive blasts of links up to 10,000 or so. Naturally you will be penalized, but some people say you can as well rank #1 for a keyword for 1-2-3 weeks before the penalty comes into effect. Is this true, is something like that possible? - Because if yes you can do this to promote some seasonal offers/etc for which you only need to rank a few weeks and it doesn't matters if you site gets slapped to oblivion after that. |

Yes and no. Weak to moderate niche? Probably. But you'll most likely get slapped eventually. Though some people build an entire business model around this, constantly jumping from project to project and targeting trending terms / phrases. (Newly released products, keywords from Google Trends, etc.) I prefer to build things long-term, but I've ranked my share of "new" keywords by blasting them. |

Whether it can be achieved or not I have no idea. But what I am sure of is sooner or later you will get penalised, so don't do it. Some people may think that a small window of opportunity is there for you to make a killing before you get banned and move onto the next website and do the same. But think about it, if nobody was trying to cheat the system in the first place, Google would not need to release panda updates to improve the service, and there wouldn't be a reason for the cheaters to take shortcuts. Ironicly it is those sharks who are creating the hurdles, that they then deceive to get over, which creates more obsticles for them to get over. I think this one is a vicious circle. |

Number of links can be one factor to consider upon entering the vast SEO atmosphere because lots of other issues seem to have roles to play like ages of domains, how competitive or light the targeted keywords are, presence or absence of great contents on sites and so many other items. I do not know who has told you about that number but it seems like a fiction and the possibilities of getting into trouble will be very high. Besides, how to get all those links quickly? Trust is something which is gained in the course of time and if you take a look at some websites which are at the top of Google for some competitive keywords, you will find them having been online for a long time, some even for more than a decade. Now, even if your site manages to gather all those thousands of links in one week, why do you believe Google will trust your site to be given better ranks than those portals which have been getting promoted in the course of time? |

Personally, I would avoid a bunch of spammy (10k) backlinks. Do you know one quality PR6 backlink has more value? And one PR6 won't get your website sandboxed. Quality over quantity is my 2012 motto. This ain't 2006 anymore. |

Depends on your keywords and competition for that niche. I am sure it won´t be a good thing for the project but give it a try with a tester site if you have the time and post your results.

| Depends on the competition. Though if you're going the automated route I'd suggest DoFollow over NoFollow. 1,000 dofollow links, even if they're fairly low quality, will out-perform thousands upon thousands of nofollow links.

Sometimes I wish it could be that simple, but it's good as it is.

| Which isn't an issue for people that are 5 sites ahead by the time one site is sandboxed. I'm not a huge fan of this method, but I know for a fact that it works.

It depends on what type of link and also the competition. Some of these fiverr guys claim that and they are lying.

It will depend. Because I'm pretty sure that Google will not index 10,000 backlinks simultaneously in a short period of time.
