Default SEO Backlinking: Linking to Content/Article?

Is it necessary to have alot of backlinks on the content as well as the home page?

What type of links would be best for individual content/articles?

Thanks

Contextual links are a good way to go. But don't put too much contextual links in a single article, or it will just create a mess. Most bloggers and affiliate marketers are averaging 1-3 links within the article.

You needing a lot of them or a just a few of them will actually depend on the kind of competition you have for that KW.

And yes, its good to have backlinks to not just your homepage but also other pages of the website.

Don't just focus on a sole link type. Its more advisable to diversify your link building methods.

When it comes to backlinks, quality is more important than quantity. Try to get backlinks that originate from high PR domains, and are dofollow. Also, remember to use your targeted keywords as anchor text.

For the most part, a link is a link.

Despite what most people tell you. There really is no need to diversify if you get high quality backlinks.

Home page backlinks. Or high pr blog posts will always carry good weight in the search engines.

nothing to see here....

I recommend no more than 2 links. One to your own homepage one to your inner page. Or if only one url, only one link so you get maximum link juice. Another more important thing is that most directories and web 2.0 doesn't allow too many links per article, so you don't want to get flagged.

Backlinks, also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links, are incoming links to a website or web page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node from another web node.Inbound links were originally important (prior to the emergence of search engines) as a primary means of web navigation; today, their significance lies in search engine optimization (SEO). The number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page. Outside of SEO, the backlinks of a webpage may be of significant personal, cultural or semantic interest: they indicate who is paying attention to that page.

Don't put too many links in a content. I use maximum one link per paragraph. Besides use do follow links to link to internal pages and use no-follow attribute to link to external page. Using too many links don't create a very good impression.

Don't give more back links in the content. Give 2 unique links to related keywords per 100 words. it is best.
Thanks,

About Home Page, make sure that you are linking to the most specific internal pages of your website so your visitors are not confused. Be clear about the objective and try if possible to anchor links the main keywords so search engines pay more attention to them.
