I was worried that if I didn't have any backlinks yet that it would show up as a red flag...so recommending the slow start is much appreciated...any recommendations for good backlinks to start off with?

My first blog ever, after first day, I started doing blog commenting. I would do 5 comments a day for a week when I was bored at work. Actually, I would do 5 comments one day, create profiles in relevant forums the next, and did that for a week; boring as hell but i was so excited with my first blog that it didn't bother me. Then I created my own web 2.0 properties with original content. The blog I had was in a niche i'm an expert in, so writing 500 words articles would take me 20 min or less, and I could do it fast. Overall i think i did about 10 2.0 webproperties with 2 articles each; a couple of them got deleted, but i would link back to my blog using those. Didn't pay for any services at first, but once I saw that i would get 2 or 3 visitors, I actually went to fiverr and got some gigs there. Also, created 3 videos and put those on a bunch of channels and that gave me a few backlinks. Did the yahoo answers thing. With one profile i would post a question, using my other profile, i would answer it and put my link on it. That kind of spreads.... But those are basic linking strategies you can start doing like today because your site is 6 weeks old. I started my backlinking like the day after I posted my first 5 pages on the blog. I think I spent a month doing relevant forum profiles and comments and actually, a couple of other people linked to my site from their blogs because of my answers on forums. I was also asked to do some guest posts on a couple of other relevant blogs. And I think back then on another forum somebody had posted how to find edu sites where u could do your own profile or something like that, and did that too. Here is a site that offers 200 bookmarks for 4 bucks; ihaven't used it yet but my friend sent it to me a while back. You can probably find some deals on this forum too. www dot xpressbookmarking dot com |

That is 20 links per day, it's not that many.

You should generally do 14 links per day for a new site so this might be ok.
