little share from me, i hope this usefull.

[1] install plugins/extensions "SEO Quake" in your Firefox or Chrome
seoquake.com

[2] ok all the preparations are done, now time to find backlinks :D
Go to dropmylink.com

[3] Tadaaa ... :D

Ok I tried it, it immediately pulls up tons of .edu blogs, which are all university sites,
talking about academia etc

how in the hell are we supposed to get links from those university sites? Post some blather about the weather and link to our site?

those sites seem pretty serious, i doubt they would tolerate or appreciate some inane comment from a new guy linking to his blog

Just try JUMP SEO Tool - It's a search engine to find only .GOV/EDU backlinks authority sites/blogs to link to, it's absolutely for free

Its really hard to get links off .edu blogs while comments spamming these days..
