I know they are owned by Google(Blogspot)

I submitted a blog yesterday about my resort. Its not listed 24 hours later. But it said "published" after I hit the button. I guess its not like publishing a post with wordpress on a domain I own

Do blogs have to be "approved" by Blogger?

Generally no ... but just because they are owned by Google doesnt mean they get preferential treatment. Like any "site" you need to link to it or at least let the search engines know you did something. The great thing about wordpress is that it automatically "pings" the search engines so you never have to worry about it.

With blogger you need to manually ping the search engines ... use ping-o-matic and you should be good to go.

You need to ping your Blogger blog manually using Pingler or Ping.fm so that it can help you get indexed in no time. You can also submit your blog to different search engines as well.

If you submit to Google & Bing you will be fine m8.

Bing Add URL

As the others have said pinging your site helps. You can also tweet it as twitter is crawled like crazy by the google and bing bots.

I never submit to google or any search engine
thats not a good idea
let google find your site, or else ping it

Yes after some time google approved your blog and showing in ranking.

Your site is already published but it has not been indexed or cached by Google. After publishing your posts , submit your link on Digg. Digg is indexed almost every hour or even less and your link might be indexed soon. Or you can use Pingomatic to ping search engines. Sharing your posts on Google plus will help in fast indexing as well.

Blogger is a blog-publishing service that allows private or multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries. It was created by Pyra Labs, which was bought by Google in 2003. Generally, the blogs are hosted by Google at a subdomain of blogspot.com. Up until May 1, 2010 Blogger allowed users to publish blogs on other hosts, via FTP. All such blogs had (or still have) to be moved to Google's own servers, with domains other than blogspot.com allowed via Custom URLs.
