Duplicate content question

Hi,

I have a site with some duplicate content on it.

I know duplicate content DOES NOT help your SEO efforts, but does it hurt it?

Duplicate content does regularly not get indexed. You might as well not have anything on that page. So no, it doesn't hurt. To Google, there isn't anything there at all.

Are you sure you have duplicate content? Like the same article posted twice? If so, why? If you mean you posted an article from an article directory, that's not duplicate content.

i think u can do some editing in it do 90% of editing it wont effect to google

I dont think google is not going to hurt you for duplicate content for example in case of lyrics of song every site have same content either they write at their own or just copy them so google wont penalize you for duplicate content but it will never give you any kind of value for that. Its useless.

It's only considered duplicate content if you have the same content duplicated on your own site, eg. you have 2 posts on your site with exactly the same content. That will affect your rankings to some degree.

Re-publishing an article from another site (with permission, of course) could be considered syndication - think news site here - and won't do any harm to your site. It's not going to help, but it won't do any harm either.

It definitely hurts. Google Panda Algorithm has specially been introduced to penalize such websites that have duplicate content. So remove duplicate content from your website as soon as possible.

If your site is having duplicate content then be very careful from Google PANDA. Sourly it will hurt your site.. better option is to change your content as soon as possible.
