Default Competition Research

Hello all, I have picked out some good potential domain names containing the keywords that I want. I am trying to research the competition in these keywords to determine if they will be a hard page to outrank. Thanks for your help and guidance. I am trying to look at page rank and external links using SEOBook toolbar for Firefox.

Google kw tool does not give competition, it only gives a very basic unreliable rating

You must use Market samurai and tools like it, in order to test top 10 competition backlink factors etc etc etc go to youtube and enter "Market Samurai SEO competition" and watch those videos, they will teach you how to use MS

You want to mainly focus on how many backlinks they have, and more importantly what kind of backlinks they have. In the backlink game, quality always beats quantity.
I.e. I would rather have 50 PR 3 backlinks than 1,000 PR0 backlinks.

Bad advice as Google Adwords Keyword Tool does not give you any competition information.

not quite
how many backlinks?
try how many backlinks the sites have for your kw (targeting that kw in their anchor text)
In other words How many of the backlinks on the site are Targeting your Kw

If I am targeting
Blue Cars

and the top site on Google has 12,000 backlinks
How many of those backlinks have anchor text of Blue Cars?
or Blue Cars..Something?

Next?
What is the PR of those Backlinks?

If there is 10,000 backlinks for Sugar Donuts, and I am targeting Blue Cars, Those are not relevant to me

I suggest you should try SEO Spyglass to check your competitor's keywords. It's worth a try.

Hello all, thank you for your posts. I have determined that I definitely need at the very least a reliable backlink checker. The one here: Backlinks Checker Tool - Backlink Watch is terrible. The problem is: I'm broke. I have basically no money to put toward a pricy SEO tool license. If you know one that has a trial period that I can use for the time being, that's the one I'll be stuck with for now. I'll check the ones that have been posted thus far.
