Hi guys, I am really looking in to building a business around SEO for local businesses since the market at my place is not staturated at all. Now, sites of local business aren't comparable to niche sites with lots of content on. For niche sites we would submit the articles, spin them, and so on. What about sites for local businesses? How do you effectively optimize them? Just with throwing quality backlinks at them? Would appreciate some insight in this. Thanks, Kolohe |

Hi Kolohe, for most local businesses you can add some articles to increase onpage seo - eg for a hairdresser in melbourne, I might add some content with keywords, eg "Darren is a hairdresser in Melbourne with experience in..." and some niche content like "caring for your hair" etc. Backlinks work well for niche sites. Remember to do other things like grab your spot on Google maps. One other thing - you could try creating a facebook page and getting clients to like the page, if it's the kind of thing you talk about. |

Well, the thing I actually want to achieve is getting my potential clients to page on on Google. I know how to do this on niche sites, not sure though how it should look like with typical business sites. I mean, will Craigslist boost the ranking? And do backlinks work like a charm on such sites as well? |

Hi, In my opinion you can do local business listing and classified for getting high traffic for your site and for seo practices you have to link building strategy like article writing, blog commenting, forum posting and social bookmarking that help you in getting high SERP. |

The difference being that with local businesses they are often concerned about reputation just as much as traffic so if you usually hire fiverr gigs or hire contractors to do cheap BMR submissions for you or something you can get in a lot of trouble. You need to ensure that all backlinks contain content that is accurate, 100% grammatically correct, and puts the company in a good light. Some business are often more sensitive to this than others. As to the actual ranking, ensure you get a bunch of localized backlinks from the same country pointing to the site. Also the same backlinking techniques work as any niche site, highly targeted links, high PR links, contextual links, etc.. Build the links for the local businesses on a consistent basis and then once they are ranking put them on a cheaper maintenance plan to ensure their rankings don't fall. ~Dave | |
