How do you tackle duplicate content

Recently, I have been victim of copying content from my blog. There was an email id mentioned on the blog which had copied my content and I asked the guy to remove it from his website.

It worked and he removed the duplicate content which was costing me traffic.

Now again I see someone has copied content from my website but there is no information about the owner of this blog.

What methods do you guys follow in such cases?

I have also faced this problem. I have contacted the owner of the blog and tell him to remove the content. But the owner never reply and even he/she didn't remove the content also. Any solution? What to do?

promodirect has a good suggestion...
as long as there is an internet this is going to happen.

i can think of two immediate fixes. the first one is if you find the website with the stolen content contact the owner/webmaster and make a deal. tell 'm they can use your content if they ad an anchor text link back to your site. this way you can get a link and possible traffic.

the second way is screw 'm. on duplicate content the most relevant usually gets shown by the search engines. so by doing a better job of on and off page seo you will make his stolen content less valuable.

and for extra credit.....copy his main home page content and send it to as many article directories as you can. of course ad an anchor text back to "YOUR" site...don't forget to ping them all...

now.....if i was the one that used your copy....disregard all of the above

I think one can try DMCA.com (recommended by promodirect) cuz there seem to be no disadvantages and on top of this it costs nothing.

The first thing you need to do is learn what duplicate content is in the eyes of the search engines.

What you are describing is copyright theft but not duplicate content. Duplicate content is the same content multiple times on the same domain.

Two different sites having the same content is not a problem in itself (other than it has been stolen from you) but as long as yours was indexed first and on page seo and rest of the site are good you have little to worry about.

Contact the hosts of the site in question and file DCMA with them to get the stolen content down.

The same happened to all of my 5 sites and I don't know what to do?
Man am I pissed and the nerve of fellow, he has a small built in office not 10 minutes drive from where my office is.
I recently noticed a drop in my traffic and found out that I was being ripped. DMCA looks hopeful let's just see if it works or not

It's very bad idea to copy and paste whole content. Google will de-indexed them one day.
