I need help with SEO on my T-Shirt site.

Hi all, I have had this site for a few years and ranked well for one niche. I started the site with just three shirt designs catering to this particular niche. I was on a couple of forums and also sold shirts on Ebay. Last year I decided to partner with a local screen printer and we added over thirty new designs and started a Facebook page. All totaled for the year we have sold $1000 worth of shirts at $19.95 a shirt. Quite a few of the orders have been for multiple shirts.

The problem is that as we have tried to rank the site for different keywords our rankings have been a roller coaster ride. When the site pops up we make sales but right after that the site gets dropped back into the Google abyss and sales go bye bye.

I am at my wits end because unlike other sites, articles and wordy content have no context in a t-shirt site. The other problem is that competition in this arena is VERY stiff(gun t-shirts, AK t-shirts, AR t-shirts, Zombie t-shirts). We are looking for any help you can offer to get realistic rankings for this site. I am not looking to take first spot since the competition for first would be cost prohibitive but top 10 would be awesome. The site is in my sig. Thanks in advance Vince

You have to find ways to add constant content to your site that will attract users. Maybe try adding a blog where you can introduce funny/interesting/scary/whatever things relates to t-shirts.

Couple quick ideas:

- Build a list. This alone could increase your revenue. Use it to update previous buyers on new products that get added as you grow.

- On-page optimization. You should make sure your page is properly optimized for the best SEO results. That is an entire subject in itself, so I won't break the details down here. You can find all you need to know by researching in this forum alone.

- YouTube videos. Why not incorporate some videos of people wearing your T-shirts going through the day or something along those lines? Would be a great way to advertise and generate some buzz virally.

Those are just a couple of ideas, but the door is wide open with tons of ways to promote your business. When faced with stiff competition, you've got to think outside of the box.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am still not sure what direction to take though. Right now we have less than 200 backlinks and I don't want a spamy backlink campaign. Since this is a t shirt site I am really not sure how to go about building a list since on most t shirt sites that I have seen the shirts are the central focus and if a visitor likes them they buy.
My main goal right now is to get my sales up to around 5 or more per week on a steady basis so that I can buy ads on some of the gun forums and use the ads to attract new visitors. Does that sound like a good way to go?

Since your's is a shopping site, try submitting your site to shopping niche directories. Check out this post for more details.

You need to do proper onpage optimization to get your ranking back and try to find reason of drop in ranking. If you want to get business then you can try classifieds and shopping list submission.

Ever thought about building the list to offer sales, coupon codes and other discounts periodically? There is MUCH more to it than just sending out updates on new product. If I did any kind of e-commerce like that, there is no way I wouldn't be without a list.

I would give it a shot - you've got nothing to lose (other than a little time).
