Default Are 301 redirects a good or a bad for SEO on Established Site?

Hi,

That's my question. I have an old website (6 years old) with un-optimized urls and I'm wanting to optimize these now totally. But I'm worried about losing the established SEO!

So will 301 redirects solve this problem? It's on about 30 of my pages that need changing.

Let me know.
Thx!

I had the same problem (but my site wasn't quite as old as yours) and I have been using the Platinum SEO plugin whcih has an option for automatic 301 redircting for permalink changes. So, you dont have to manuualy do 301 redirect every time you change a permalink, it automatically does the job whenever you change a permalink.

I haven't had any problem so far as far as losing any ranking or anything like that on changed urls.

301 Redirect is one of the most effective and useful redirect which is used for changing permalink! if you are using 301 redirect then no need to worry about redirection! The only thing you have to do after redirection is make upgraded sitemap and submit it into Google Webmaster Tools!

The platinum seo plugin is good advice and probably the easiest fix for this problem.
